Cyrano (1000+ posts) Sun Jan-24-10 03:37 PMTHE LARGE-PROBOSCISED PRIMITIVE; OSCAR WILDEOriginal message How about if we get rid of both "Recommend" and "Unrecommend?" Yeah, it's a radical idea. But if you're not radical in one way or another, you're on the wrong site. Many posts are "Rec'd" because those who write them are always "Rec'd," (e.g. William Pitt and Nance Gregg, among others). And that's not a complaint. Their posts are usually outstanding and should be widely read.On the other hand, the "Unrec'd" function, (it seems to me), contains a degree of maliciousness. And before you jump all over me, I'm not saying that anyone who "Unrec's" is malicious.I guess this is just one more plea to DU to drop "Unrec'd." And perhaps also drop "Rec'd." How then to select/highlight outstanding posts? Beats me. Any suggestions?
pecwae (1000+ posts) Sun Jan-24-10 03:39 PMResponse to Original message 1. OK by me. I don't see the point of either, but if one goes the other should follow.
treestar (1000+ posts) Sun Jan-24-10 03:40 PMResponse to Original message 2. Good idea Since we are allowed to kick without making a comment, that would take care of keeping the issue on the first or second page.
DailyGrind51 (1000+ posts) Sun Jan-24-10 03:43 PMResponse to Original message 4. Great idea!
tekisui (1000+ posts) Sun Jan-24-10 03:45 PMResponse to Original message 5. They should can the 'unrec' because of all the wasted bandwidth. So many posts are about the unrec, OPs and responses. Either complaining about it, or complaining about the complainers.

Cyrano (1000+ posts) Sun Jan-24-10 03:55 PMTHE LARGE-PROBOSCISED PRIMITIVE; OSCAR WILDEResponse to Reply #6 11. We've both been on DU about the same amount of time and our number of posts is similar. (Check our profiles.)It seems to me that we both spend more time "looking out the window," or pursuing other interests, than we spend on DU.And do you really find it necessary to use the word "whining" when you read a post with which you don't agree? There's a difference between expressing an opinion and whining.
HughMoran (1000+ posts) Sun Jan-24-10 03:46 PMResponse to Original message 7. Some days Greatest looks like Hatest I dunno.
last1standing (1000+ posts) Sun Jan-24-10 03:48 PMResponse to Original message 8. What would we do without our popularity contests? We might have to start reading and considering ideas again. Can't have that.
Quantess (1000+ posts) Sun Jan-24-10 03:50 PMResponse to Original message 9. I Love Unrecommend! Recommend too! They help separate the wheat from the chaff.
Warpy (1000+ posts) Sun Jan-24-10 03:53 PM#09 TOP PRIMITIVE OF 2009; THE DEFROCKED WARPED PRIMITIVEResponse to Original message 10. How about we get people to obsess about something else? Obsessing about getting progressive candidates to win Democratic primaries and then the election sounds like a good substitute.
Well, their obsession with pissing and moaning about unrec is boring as hell, but it's better than another dozen threads on the Supreme Court decision.
The primitives are on a remote island, after all, far away from the real world.
We should send them to a new home:
That or we could send that to their homes.
We could expand San Francisco Bay without relocating the residents.
DUmmies think everyone is like them. A little bad luck and you have only 2 options open.A: The government should do something for me.B: Suicide.
