It's now a week later in Haiti. And millions still have no water of food
I'm sure there's an explanation for this, but that explanation doesn't help if you are sitting on the ground dying from lack of water.

Many countries have sent people and supplies. But isn't it up to us, the "Greatest Country In The World," to do everything possible to fix this?

We "beat" Iraq in less time than it takes to deliver water and food to people who are dying.

Where's the urgency? Where's the sense of this being a life and death EMERGENCY. Where's the sense of a disaster that requires warp speed help?

In the not-too-distant future, we will view this as a **** up on the same scale as letting New Orleans drown after Katrina. This was not the intention of our president, our government, or others who were trying to help. Nonetheless, the outcome has been worse.

Can anyone doubt that human beings must find a way to solve this ongoing, unacceptable response to human need, misery and death wherever and whenever it occurs? We've got the technology. Could there possibly be a lack of will somewhere along the line?

it is not quite 5 days. In this kind of situation that's far different than 7 days.
People are getting water and MREs as fast as relief workers can get it to them.
The comparison between dropping bombs on Baghdad to delivering aid in a situation where the devastation is mind blowing and the infrastructure near nil, is fantastically stupid.
The urgency couldn't be more evident. Aid was mobilized and sent within the first few hours after the earthquake. There is no such thing as warp speed, genius.

What was really needed in Haiti was one general who knew how to kick ass, and get things moving.

Sorry to disagree with everyone on this thread, but we should be able to do far better than we did.

But I'll tell you what. Let's see what is being said about our rescue effort a week from now. My guess is that there were major ****ups that will be revealed. And the finger pointing will start.
But back to my original point. Try sitting on the ground for just three days without water. Finger pointing doesn't do much good when you're dead.

We are behind a rock and a hard place here Johnny.

Our military bring in water and food all kinds of aid but getting it  to the needy is almost impossible.  When bands of roving bandits hold up the delivery, our military cannot shoot them to get through even if being shot at themselves.

Our objective is to bring in supplies to substain life, our job is not to shoot to kill the people of that country that stop us.     

Very difficult to have a wonderful hospital ship standing by for patients that cannot come to them.


What it comes to is we can deliver everything this country needs to support life, but, government forces or bandits are preventing all this.   We cannot without permission of the Haiti government use any force to deliver any kind of help.

A incident will happen, a gang will fire on a supply truck and a Marine will fire back in self defence or give a big lip to someone causing harm.   Then the world will yell that we have invaded the island and caused a war with some of their citizens.

France has geared up for one, I wonder who is next.?
