President Obama Names Transgender Appointee to Commerce Department

In a statement, Simpson, a member of the National Center for Transgender Equality's board of directors, said that "as one of the first transgender presidential appointees to the federal government, I hope that I will soon be one of hundreds, and that this appointment opens future opportunities for many others."

A 2004 YWCA "Woman on the Move," Simpson recently served as Deputy Director in Advanced Technology Development at Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, Arizona.

At Raytheon, Simpson -- a former test pilot who had worked for the company for more than a generation -- transitioned from male to female and was instrumental in convincing the military contractor to add gender identity and expression to its equal employment opportunity policy.

She later ran unsuccessfully for Congress and was a delegate for then-Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, to the Democratic National Convention in 2008.

I truly disike such sloppy reporting.

I don't care if 'Amanda Hugankiss' has gone through his Chopadickoffame proceedure.  God gave him an 'X' and a 'Y' chromosome, those chromosomes still exist in every cell of 'Amanda Hugankiss's' body, ergo it doesn't matter if 'Amanda Hugankiss' wants to play with dollies and host tea parties, 'Amanda Hugankiss' is still male.  If 'Amanda Hugankiss' were to announce one day that he was a '56 Buick it wouldn't be any more true - or less nuts - than announcing that he is all of a sudden, a 'she'.

Y'know, if the person has what it takes to do the real job, without turning it into a platform for their personal social causes, great, I have no problem with it at all.  What are the odds of that, though?

Call me biased if you choose, but this is a top-tier, very sensitive executive position, and I have reservations about the mental stability of anyone who has something as basic as their gender wires crossed inside the head (As opposed to people who have screwed-up glandular systems, who have perfectly legitimate reasons to fall outside the normal sorting tray).

I disagree.  People who are transgendered feel like they should be the opposite sex (why they feel such is all theory at this point, I believe), that is all.   I think undergoing the procedure is an incredibly brave thing to do.  I think making it your platform is unnecessary, however.  And someone who uses their job to do so shouldn't be appointed to a high office.
