Times Square Closed Due To Suspicious Van
« on: December 30, 2009, 11:14:05 AM »

The van has temporary plates and a tarp is covering the windows, police say.
" The NYPD has closed down part of Manhattan's Times Square in response to a report of a suspicious vehicle, WCBS has learned.

Police blocked off Broadway at 42nd Street just after 11 a.m. Wednesday to investigate a white 1992 Dodge van with tinted windows that has been parked at the location for two days.

The van has temporary plates and a tarp is covering the windows, police say.

The NYPD's emergency unit and bomb squad are at the scene investigating."  CBSNews.com

Probably nothing more than the New Years Ball being kept in the van.

I'm surprised it wasn't towed off hours before.  They are usually pretty sticky about parking around there. Now they won't tow it off until the robot comes in, drills a hole and snakes a fiberoptic camera inside to check it out.

Now if they ran the VIN and called the last owner who said he sold it two weeks ago it to some guy from Pakistan, look out.

Remember what his minion Rahm said:

'Never let a good crisis go to waste."

The crisis would reek of MIHOP . . .
"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of Liberty." - Thomas Jefferson

"All you have to do is look straight and see the road, and when you see it, don't sit looking at it - walk!" -Ayn Rand

"Those that trust God with their safety must yet use proper means for their safety, otherwise they tempt Him, and do not trust Him.  God will provide, but so must we also." - Matthew Henry, Commentary on 2 Chronicles 32, from Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible

"These anti-gun fools are more dangerous to liberty than street criminals or foreign spies."--Theodore Haas, Dachau Survivor

Chase her.
Chase her even when she's yours.
That's the only way you'll be assured to never lose her.

The drunk DUmmie carpenter that lives in his truck has moved I see.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

False alarm.  However this points out that a potential terrorist doesn't have to do much to bring an area of the city to a halt.

Looks like a test of how long something suspicious can be left before anyone gets excited about it.  :uhsure:

If we were still in the Bush administration he would have been nailed to a cross for not doing anything about it or not being in NYC
Good girls are bad girls that never get caught.

Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it, misdiagnosing it and then misapplying the wrong remedies.

Yup.

I wouldn't be surprised if that van wasn't planted by Rahm Emanuel just to "burnish" his boy's credentials.

Obama isn't going to be happy until we get this on our shores:

Ouch----- Sparky, that brings me back to duck and cover, and I am willing to bet there are few here that remember the school drills along time ago.

One has to watch the government programs my generation was exposed to to understand why I and those of my ILK find problems trusting the government today.

We were captive audiences in school to these films we had to watch in school.   One that really made a difference in my life was one that told us what radiation poisoning could do, hair loss and facial rashes.  Then the government programmer went on to tell us this was temporary and we who paniced were taking  vanity too far.

Yup, some of the stuff the schools in-forced on us by government mandate was weird.  You have to realise we were just little kids, 7-10 years old going to school and having our teachers scare us to death.  One minute we were reading and the next minute we were hiding under our desks and wondering about if Mom and Dad were dead.  False alarm, just a test, no problem this time.

We had this for 5 frieking years, told to be prepared in case a big mushroom appeared out of no where.   Some kids I knew carried a white sheet on the back of their bike just in case they had to duck and cover.

My Ilk remember being raised on fear of the unknown that have the ability to put that big old bad mushroom over our home.   We were told we could survive the attack if we hid under our desks at school or jumped into a ditch with a cover over us.

Crap-----few really remember those days or at give them a passing memory.
