Food assistance spreads its reach

Every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, the line begins to form outside the Illinois Department of Human Services long before someone unlocks the front door at 9 a.m.

There are many reasons about 400 clients make the trek to the state office building on Northeast Adams Street each day - to register a new name, a baby or an address to an existing account, attend the required annual check-in with a caseworker, ask a question about benefits.

But increasingly they are coming for one specific purpose: an initial application to receive government assistance to buy groceries.

"We've seen a tremendous increase in the number of people applying for what used to be called food stamps," said Lisa Feinholz, the Human Services director for Peoria and Woodford counties. "The volume of first-time applicants started to rise significantly about a year to 18 months ago."

It's really no surprise. The area unemployment rate hit double digits in June, peaked at 12.3 percent in July and remained high with the latest report - an 11.7 percent rate for October.

Well now, I thought Benito Bo was going to take care of this.

One wonders what happened.

1. I went for food assistance early this month...I can't go back for 30 days. But at least I got food.

Several people were there,we all stood in line in the cold rain waiting for the food assistance place to open the doors. We got there early and there was a line already. I shared my umbrella with a few kids. This was at the food bank.I know lots of people on or that need foodstamps and the food bank to survive.I am among them..

sigh.

Well now, if the subway cat got a job, the subway cat could buy her own food.

And in this 0bonomy, there's jobs to be had all over the place.

2. Welcome to the club honey....sad to say it's growing by leaps and bounds. I've been going once a month to our local food pantry, and the lines are getting longer each time. I get $16.00 a month in food stamps which is no where sufficient enough on my fixed S.S. income, so the kindness of others is very welcomed by me. I pray for better days for all those in need.

3. Yeah I know

Been going to the food pantry before. it sucks but it's better than being hungry..Ya know this scheme of paying to exist, it's ****ing abusive. None of us asked to be in this world, before corporations the world provided food for us,when it was wild.

Yeah, the delivery system wasen't perfect, but we lived, we ate the plants and hunted animals .We ate without paying some rich Ceo for the 'privlege' of eating food...So why do we accept paying money ,paying others who have way more than us,way more than most of humanity, why do we pay THEM, MORE for the rights to eat food, something all people do, to exist? WTF has happened to us?

Why do we accept this level of inequality and craziness concerning basic human needs to support life? Lions don't pay a corporation to catch and eat a zebra.Birds do not pay for the berries they eat.

I want to see UGP's fat ass grab a spear and go hunt down her own food. I'd buy a ticket for that shit.

Also, we've all seen the pictures of UGP and she's full of shit. She hasn't missed a meal in YEARS.

I think UGP is doing some last-minute campaigning. It would be the only thing she's ever won.

But that internet connection is paid in full.  You cannot eat an internet connection, yet you Little Goons all have one, so no one must really be hungry because a truly hungry person would never buy internet with precious money that could buy food.

Okay, I'm sure this is one of those situations where only UGP understands the connection but the prior "delivery system" it's referring to required effort far beyond standing in line and waiting for handouts. As a bona fide furry and male panther trapped in a human female body, I'd think it'd understand how the whole hunting prey thing works. Granted, there weren't any evil CEO's running companies that made refrigerators and freezers to keep food fresh, stoves to cook said foods, or even evil manufacturing companies that made cans and boxes and then put food in them, deliver them to the evil corporate grocery stores where someone else could buy them so that UGP could drag its fat ass out in the rain to get free food back in the idyllic cave days but even tribal societies had their hierarchy. Besides, what's stopping UGP from buying a few seed packets and planting a few veggies on the patio or raising a couple of meat rabbits...even that can be done on a patio. I'd think the whole killing its own food thing would appeal to someone who fancies itself a predator. Of course, the real irony is that it's railing on and on about having to pay others for its food while just discussing getting a handout.

Hey, the woodlands are still out there. Get out there and forage, baby. All the free grubs, roots, berries and small rodents you can shove in your maw.

If you want t-bone steak though, from a cow someone bought, raised, fed, took risks on, cut up, wrapped up and put in the display case of a well-lit, temperature-controlled store, you'll have to pay.

Ding, ding, ding, ding! We have a winnuh!!!!! UGP doesn't know the first thing about hunting and gathering. If she had been in a "tribe" or a "pride", take yer pick, she would either have been kicked off a cliff or starved to death. Again, take yer pick.

Raising rabbits would be quite fulfilling. One pair of breeders and she would have more necks to break than she could probably handle.

Because you have an income. Thats why its only $16. In a "hostile" (yea right) state like Texas a homeless man can get $85 a month.

Did you guys know that homeless single men qualify for food stamps? Thats why the money they beg for doesn't go to food. $85 is a lot of balogna and bread.

I cant understand why DUmmies complain about people getting food assistance from the govt when that is their ultimate goal for all of us to get food allowances from the Govt. Maybe they just don't get big enough amounts to satisfy them.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

One of the many, MANY things I don't get about DUmmies is this: Why air your misfortunes all over the internet? Why not keep such embarrassing "facts" (and I use the word loosely) to yourself. Are you really trying to make people feel sorry for you? Hell, I got problems that will never be brought up on the internet because I got common sense, pride, and self-respect. I know those things are forgin concepts to the mental disorder that is liberalism but there it is.

That is because you are not a liberal........liberals break down into two distinctive classes, they are:

The "elites", who think that they are better than everyone else, and are therefore entitled to make the rules for everybody else but themselves......

The "victims", who think that they have an innate right to exist at the expense of everyone else......

The DUmmies mostly fall in the latter category, and each have a need to be perceived as a greater victim than the next DUmmie on the list.......a form of "street cred"......
