Freepers will have a field day with this: Kerry's daughter busted for DUI

Alexandra Kerry DUI: John Kerry's Daughter Arrested In Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES — The daughter of Sen. John Kerry has been arrested in Hollywood for allegedly driving drunk.

Los Angeles police say 36-year-old Alexandra Kerry was stopped by officers on a Hollywood street at about 12:40 a.m. Thursday and tested positive for driving under the influence.

Officer Bruce Borihanh says she was booked at the Hollywood police station and was held for about five hours. She was released at about 5:30 a.m. after posting $5,000 bail.

Borihanh didn't immediately have other details.

Alexandra Kerry is the eldest daughter of the Massachusetts senator, the Democrats' 2004 presidential nominee.

She has produced documentaries and has had several small acting roles.

Requests for comment from Alexandra Kerry's agent and John Kerry's office were not immediately returned.

1. "36-year-old" why should this reflect on Sen Kerry and why further this story?

9. Obvious reference to Laura's vehicular homicide killing of her ex-boyfriend when she was young.

No police investigation so no evidence of her drunk driving was preserved.

4. Not only is she 36 years old and out on her own for some time, she is on the opposite side of the continent from her father..why should he have any kind of comment about it? Another piece of stupid news.

I dunno.

franksolich is confused.

franksolich hasn't seen "freepers" having a "field day" about this.

In fact, this doesn't even seem an issue to "freepers."

7. Is that anything like Nicole Bush getting off with a slap on the wrist a couple of days in jail for drug use and possession...hmmm. As I recall she was a poor mis-guided girl and deserved leniency.

10. I'm sure the outrage machine will kick into high gear and they'll be demanding Senator Kerry's resignation by tomorrow morning.

The Gunga Din primitive's projecting; I haven't seen any outrage from "freepers" about this.  It's a non-issue.  Only for the primitives, the imagined "freeper" reaction is an issue.

14. Well, I see there's already righteous indignation here that the evil media should even report this.

Now that some people already have their knickers in a knot, some facts about journalism:

1. Of course it's going to be mentioned in the headline and the lead paragraph that she's John Kerry's daughter. The family connection to a well-known politician who once ran for president is newsworthy--regardless of why she is in the news.

2. The story mentions her age because ALL stories of arrests include the age of the person being arrested. In fact, most routine news stories list the ages of all the parties. This is not meant as an editorial comment on what the person mentioned here did, or whether she should have been old enough to know better at her age, or any other such thing. It's just a ROUTINE FACT.

3. She "refused preliminary screening"; that was why she was arrested for DUI. Under any state law in which you are stopped and your mere refusal to take a sobriety test subjects you to arrest, that's all it takes. Also, although .06 BAC is under the legal state limit of .08, sites are reporting that this is enough to be charged under California law. Another FACT.

I know it's really unpleasant whenever a Dem does something stupid and gets caught doing it, and no one likes to hear the freepers crow and gloat. But really--the reportage above is not offensive in content nor is it meant to be. It's just the facts. Not an evil journalist trying to make hay out of the situation.

Edited to add: Of COURSE her father's office was also called for comment...because of who he is. That's a journalist covering his/her butt, is all. No journalist in his/her right mind expects to receive an actual comment under such circumstances. But they're not doing their job unless they can say they made a request for one and it was turned down. Unpleasant, but true.

I say all this because there are enough REAL examples of media bias that there is no need to go looking for it when it's not there. I mean, really. Getting angry just because the event was reported in the first place, or because the age of the arrested person was given...sheesh.

A free press is what our founding fathers wanted for us, and for all its problems, we are still better off with it than without it.

16. Yeah, tell it to the judge, right?

I bear no ill will toward this young woman or anyone else in her family. But drunk driving is STUPID and we need to be less tolerant of it in our society than we are.

I am sure that if it were a Republican pol's family member stopped, DU would be full of snark and gloat. But somehow, when one of ours does it, we need to kinda sweep it under the rug?

I leave it to the authorities involved to sort this out. A good idea, I think.

18. I'm more amused by the pre-emptive redirection of outrage which tends to absolve the accused on our side.

Not good.

Yeah, that always happens when the primitives jump to conclusions about a possible "freeper" reaction.

19. It is not clear that she was drunk driving - she was under the limit

It is very likely that she did not think she was drunk. There is nothing to sweep under the rug. I assume that she will now be more aware that she really can't drink more than a glass of wine and then drive.

Frankly, if one of George Bush's kids were arrested with BAC of .06, I would think it unfair that it was all over the news.

17. The only problem I have is that the AP article excluded the BAC

The fact is that does make a difference to people's interpretation of the article. Playing with one of the alcohol calculators, 2 glasses of wine could cause that if you weigh 120 pounds. (I have no idea what AK weighs, but she is tall and thin.)

And apparently stars in two-bit porn flicks?

This is a non-story, and nobody's talking about it at any other sites I go to.  A .06 is really quite nothing, and must be a California knee-jerk law, like a school zero tolerance policy.  NY is .08 and equals about 2 beers in a normal sized person.  Hardly staggering drunk.

Fun fact:  NY categorizes "alcohol abuse" as having actually caught a buzz, no matter how slight, like one beer (.04 BAC).   I suppose the only thing falling under that bar would be a sip of communion wine.

It is amusing.  There is only one reason to drink alcohol - and it ain't the dee-licious taste.

Go screw yourself, T Wolf.  It was not a criminal act, just an unfortunate mistake made when she was young.  The police did investigate and found no evidence of drinking in either driver.

But as the quoted story indicates, she refused to take a Breathalyzer test, which automatically calls for an arrest. If she had consented to the breathalyser , she might not have been arrested.

Mandatory license suspension for one year too. She must have felt a buzz enough to risk it all by refusing. She gambled and lost. Now she's been arrested and lost her license. ooops.  ::)

Well, shit happens, though it's more the kind of mistake someone in their 20s would make, but contrary to their expectations, I don't think it has Jack to do with reflecting badly on John Kerry.

Hell I can be like the DUmmies.
Why isn't she serving in Afghanistan? Instead of fighting Obama's war she's getting drunk and partying at home.

Note to lurking DUmmies I do not believe in what I posted I was mocking how you goons would react if Jenna Bush or her sister Barbara would have got a DUI.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.
