Ford To Cut Shifts, Lay Off Some 2,500 WorkersPosted by Purveyor on Mon Mar-03-08 01:37 PMMarch 3 2008 DETROIT, March 3 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co on Monday said it was eliminating shifts at two assembly plants and two engine plants and laying off some 2,500 workers as part of its effort to cut costs and return to profitability.The No. 2 U.S. automaker said it would run its Chicago and Louisville, Kentucky, assembly plants on one shift rather than the current two shifts starting at some point this summer.In addition, Ford said it would cut a shift at its Cleveland Engine Plant No. 2 in April. Maybe if Ford would design products people want to BUY they would fare better.How does Ford's complete inability to understand the market they are in be a Bush issue? The BDS is strong.
If Ford could pay (and benefit) its workers what they are worth instead of what the anti-American unions demand, Ford's products would be more affordable and more desirable to the public and Ford could remain profitable and fully on line.

The BDS is strong.I dunno. I've already posted one thread about Ford's euro Focus. A convertible, no less. If the US Focus looked like that, I would have might have bought one.
But bye and large, the product line up and down is boring and not well-made.I rent cars all the time and I really don't like the new Mustang. It is rough handling and is geared very strangely. They look nice from the outside, but I wouldn't own one.
