Alabama @ Ole Miss
« on: October 08, 2009, 08:39:24 AM »
It's time time of the year again.  I'll be leaving in the next few minutes to drive to Memphis and meet my best friend from Tampa to enjoy another fine college football game.  The game's this Saturday at 2:30 Central and will be on CBS.

I'll be on the Ole Miss side, around 25 rows up on the 30 yard line on the right side of the 50 as your facing the field.  So when you see me waving at you, make sure you wave back.

But first things first:  Beale Street and BBQ.

Enjoy the tailgate and game. Should be a good one.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site

Interesting place.  The main tailgating area is called The Grove, which is the quad between the student center and the stadium, and it's basically a tailgate tent city.  Everyone puts their stuff in either wagons, or bungie cords it onto their rolling coolers, or carries their food, drinks, etc..., and heads over to the tailgate.  And all drinks have to be in a cup (some law having to do with Ole Miss being in the county and not in the city) so you see these stacks and stacks of cups everywhere.  A lot of both men and women dress up for the games; I've never seen so many women walking around in high heels to a football game.  And given how wet and muddy it was, that made for some interesting walking.  Place was packed.  Only other thing I did was go into the town.  Back in the early 40's, my Mom was a beautician and worked for a lady there in Oxford, so I walked around to see some of the places she used to go.

Otherwise it was cool and damp, I had good seats, and Snead can't hit the broad side of a barn.  That's not to say the Bama QB was much better, he just happened to hit the barn a couple of times.  Bama has a good D, but I wouldn't say it was any better than Ole Miss' D.  It's just that when Bama got the ball they could hold on for 5 or 6 plays, whereas Ole Miss was 3 and out and their D just finally got tired.  Bama is beatable to a team that can score and has even a half-way decent D.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle
