Pachelbel's Canon. It's a standing joke between me and Mrs E that when that melody is played, sung, or scratched out on the ground, the rolling eyes (  ::)  ) commences.

She hates that piece of music. As many weddings as she's played, as a soloist and as a member of a string quartet, she's played it so many times she can do it in her sleep. In a word - BORING - especially the figured bass, or cello part. Over and over and over again, the same damned thing.

The obvious question is, "Why? What THAT piece of music? What the hell is so 'wedding-like' that the Pachelbel Canon continues to be a favorite?"

I dunno. As a brass player, I get to play Mouret's "Rondeau" (theme to the "Masterpiece Theater"), Clarke's Trumpet Voluntary, and a few other things. (If the bride wants to hear the Canon, I just glare at her until she slinks away.)

In all honestly, I didn't recognize the music. Just looked at Nena while she was dripping sweat.

I was never a fan of Eighties-vintage pop music. I thought it pretty much all sucked ass.

I'm the opposite about the 80s music. I like a lot of it. However, you ARE right about that particular song by her. It did suck. I don't know why I like Canon in D Minor, but I do. I wasn't familiar with that Nena song, Carpe Diem and when I started it, it didn't take me long to recognize Canon as the basis for that song. I know that many musicians have stolen classical pieces to make rock/ pop songs out of them. It kind of pisses me off because that shows me a lack of ingenuity and inventiveness. IMO, they should write their own damned music!!! :)
