Automotive Observation: Ford Draws The Crowd
« on: October 03, 2009, 06:29:29 PM »
I went to the State Fair of Texas yesterday.  The weather was postcard perfect.  The perfect weather and the fact that it was Friday made for a crowded fair.

I visited the Auto Show.  I entered the Automobile Building through the west entrance, which is sort of the back side.  The Automobile Building is always a big draw.  I entered and there were no crowds.  I wondered what was going on.

Then I found out.  The crowd was down on the east end of the building in the Ford exhibition area.

This is no bouncy.  It's just a report.  I don't even know what it means.  I know I have been going into that Auto Show for the past forty years and I have never seen anything like what I saw yesterday.

And what did Ford have on display?
I can see November 2 from my house!!!

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Just like all the others, it was their complete line.  It's a huge show.  It's a huge building.

Ford is going to take a lot of market share in the next two years simply for not taking bailouts.

Then, as GM and Chrysler crumble, the administration will step in and crush Ford with new regulations that will make it impossible for them to compete with GM. Then Ford will 1) sell to the gov't, 2) slowly die on the vine 3) say "FU" and close doors intentionally.

I'm hoping for #3 as it would be the biggest wake-up call this country could ever receive.

I'm sure all the folks that work for Ford along with all their suppliers would be thrilled with your opinion.

No, a privately owned company giving the socialists the finger would be the biggest wake-up call this country could ever receive.

Past behavior predicts future. I'm hoping to hell I'm wrong, but do you honestly see this administration, with all of the bankruptcy law violations, the increased EPA and mileage regulations, and ownership of 66% of the American car companies REALLY letting Ford run away with the entire nut?

Again, I hope to hell I'm wrong. But I don't see this administration allowing a "private" firm to succeed over publicly owned. Just don't see it.

Isn't that what I said in option #3?

Kinda....

I'm advocating open defiance, you're leaning towards mass unemployment.

One in the same. We're already at massive unemployment. Gov't takeover or manipulation will lead to mass unemployment by definition. It has to - can't run in the red indefinitely. So yeah, I honestly do hope that Ford says "FU - we're not going to operate in this model..." directly to the gov't. Hell, I hope they all do!  Only by impacting the apathetic will the giant really arise.
