Schilling interested in Kennedy's seat

Interesting . . . I had heard that he was interested in politics before, too.

Schilling interested in Kennedy's seat

BOSTON -- Curt Schilling, the former major league pitcher who won the allegiance of Bostonians by leading the Red Sox to the 2004 World Series, said Wednesday that he has "some interest" in running for the seat held for nearly 50 years by Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.

Schilling, a registered independent and longtime Republican supporter, wrote on his blog that while his family and video game company, 38 Studios, are high priorities, "I do have some interest in the possibility."

"That being said, to get to there, from where I am today, many, many things would have to align themselves for that to truly happen," he added.

Any other comment "would be speculation on top of speculation," Schilling said, adding, "My hope is that whatever happens, and whomever it happens to, this state makes the decision and chooses the best person -- regardless of sex, race, religion or political affiliation -- to help get this state back to the place it deserves to be."

State election law would limit Schilling to running solely as an independent candidate because it requires those seeking a major party nomination to have been enrolled in that party for at least 90 days before the Nov. 3 deadline for filing nomination papers with the state Elections Division.

This could be interesting.

Of course, the locals were completely dumbfounded by that statement.  A jock as a Senator, they exclaimed.

That was before I explained to several of them that several professional atheletes have served in the House and Senate.

Any of the Kennedy grandkids with prior political experience still living in the People's Republic of Massachsuetts?

Silly little man!  They're KENNEDYS.  They don't NEED experience.  The mere name alone should cause you to genuflect in pious reverence once you cross into Massholistan.

Ive been paying a bit of attention to this (since I live here) and it is shaping up to be interesting - especially if no Kennedy jumps into the fray. At this point it is shaping up to be A.G. Martha Coakley who is a fairly conservative Democrat (for Massachusetts - Honestly, she is smart and tough as nails). vs right leaning Independent Schilling and former Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey. (neither Healey nor Schilling have confirmed anything)

If it comes down to Healey vs Coakley it could get quite interesting - Coakley is not at all liked by the criminal element in the Commonwealth, and is the biggest roadblock to total legalization of Marijuana usage.

The Romney administration is now considered far far better than the Patrick administration and would absolutely win if the contest for Governor were held today. This will play well for Healey.

Coakley would also be considered a feather in the cap of the PUMA constituency, since she backed Hillary, while Teddy went ahead and endorsed The One. PUMA revenge ! RAWR !!!11!!

Healey has practical experience as Lt. Governor, is quite intelligent (Harvard educated, then earned a Ph.D from Trinity College in Ireland. -- Its actually stunning she ended up a conservative) and has a huge political warchest.

Schilling is a wildcard, and will probably pick off independent voters, as well as Democrats who are disenchanted with Patrick, but can't bring themselves to vote for a rethugglikkan.  Schilling is also considered a sports hero by some, a total asshole by others, and he always speaks his mind.  Regardless of what one feels about Schilling - one must admit he doesn't bury his intentions in 'nuance'.

Of course, if anyone named Kennedy runs, it's all over. I think if a Kennedy does run, we should draft Lisa Kennedy Montgomery ( 'Kennedy' from the years when MTV actually played music videos) to make a mess of things  :-)

True. All of them can't be in rehab, but I don't know of one Kennedy that's interested in filling Fat Ted's shoes.

Schilling seems a little green, but that's probably a good thing in this case. He had better hope the MSM doesn't give him the same treatment Lynn Swann got in PA some time back.

Just saw miskie's reply - any of those three look better than Ted to me.

Joseph P. Kennedy II, Bobby's son-- and a former Congressman is giving "serious consideration" and he has $2 million in leftover campaign money from the House.

Have you hear this guy (try to) speak?  It's painful.

It is, but the only thing that is important is his last name to those voters.  The guy has business links to Hugo Chavez, drives a car like his uncle Ted, and had his annulment overturned by the Vatican.

Anywhere else he would be a joke.  But in the People's Republic of Taxachusetts he is a God.

Folks like Joe, Patrick (R.I.) and Caroline (N.Y.) are weak candidates at best - its almost like they are at the end of a long inbred lineage, and are nothing more than a bunch of incompetent fools. I would think that Massachusetts would avoid one of those Kennedys but I suspect it wouldn't if any of them were on the ballot -- BTW, any of them can be on the ballot - the Commonwealth has no residency requirement for its Senators - Which is why I propose Kennedy from MTV - even though she lives in California.

He's now saying no:

Maybe the ties to Chavez were just too much, even for MA . . .
