Jihadis thrice attacked Pakistan nuclear sites
« on: August 11, 2009, 02:31:37 PM »
WASHINGTON: Pakistan's nuclear facilities have already been attacked at least thrice by its home-grown extremists and terrorists in little reported incidents over the last two years, even as the world remains divided over the safety and security of the nuclear weapons in the troubled country, according to western analysts. ( Watch )

The incidents, tracked by Shaun Gregory, a professor at Bradford University in UK, include an attack on the nuclear missile storage facility at Sargodha on November 1, 2007, an attack on Pakistan's nuclear airbase at Kamra by a suicide bomber on December 10, 2007, and perhaps most significantly the August 20, 2008 attack when Pakistani Taliban suicide bombers blew up several entry points to one of the armament complexes at the Wah cantonment, considered one of Pakistan's main nuclear weapons assembly.

These attacks have occurred even as Pakistan has taken several steps to secure and fortify its nuclear weapons against potential attacks, particularly by the United States and India, says Gregory.

Clicked on the link, story I saw said "Thrice."

"Thrice" = 3X, "Twice" = 2X.

Not that that's better news...

Is 0Bama's attacks on the Taliban near the boarder driving them farther into Pakistan where the nukes are?  :popcorn:

Not quite.

From the story

Quote
As a result, Pakistan, with a few exceptions, chose to locate much of its nuclear weapons infrastructure to the north and west of the country and to the region around Islamabad and Rawalpindi - sites such as Wah, Fatehjang, Golra Sharif, Kahuta, Sihala, Isa Khel Charma, Tarwanah, and Taxila. The concern, however, is that most of Pakistan's nuclear sites are close to or even within areas dominated by Pakistani Taliban militants and home to al-Qaida.

I should think India will soon be in the same hotseat as Israel.

I should think India will soon be in the same hotseat as Israel.

They have been for awhile with Pakistan, really; to date they are the only pair of Third-World countries that are both sworn enemies and armed with nukes.  India is totally dominant economically and in all other ways, and trounced Pakistan in every war they've fought with the massively-superior Indian Army.  Pakistan gained a certain measure of freedom from being India's doormat with the nukes, but at the same time the nukes give India the only real reason it has to want to see Pakistan wiped off the map.  From the Pakistani side, their politics is a fragmented and violent mess and there is no telling who might end up in control of the damn nukes, which is a huge threat to India, since there are plenty of Pakistanis who would like to see India bombed back to the Stone Age purely out of revenge and hatred, even if it doesn't make Pakistan any better than it is.  Although there is a large disparity in the size of their nuclear arsenals in India's favor, a nuclear exchange would probably turn Pakistan into a parking lot (except for tribesman in the hills, who might not notice much difference at all if they aren't in the downwind pattern) and destroy the Indian economy plus ten or fifteen of its largest cities, so a form of mutually-assured destruction seems to be the main thing keeping them at peace.

I was actually referring to Israel in the context of Politics. I'm sure some more liberal governments are already warning them of trying to take their own security into their own hands.
