Ryan O'Neal: I Hit on My Daughter at Farrah's Funeral
« on: August 03, 2009, 11:46:45 AM »
Quote
Ryan O’Neal hit on his own daughter at partner Farrah Fawcett’s funeral in June.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actor says he didn’t recognize the “beautiful blonde woman” – who happened to be his daughter Tatum O’Neal – that embraced him at Fawcett’s funeral.

“I had just put the casket in the hearse and I was watching it drive away when a beautiful blonde woman comes up and embraces me … I said to her, ‘You have a drink on you? You have a car?’ She said ‘Daddy, it’s me – Tatum!’ I was just trying to be funny with a strange Swedish woman, and it’s my daughter. It’s so sick.” ...

WTF?????????

Okay, I can find at least 87 things wrong with this story and I haven't even clicked on the whole thing yet.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

As weird as it sounds, if he was truly contemplating loading Farrah's casket in the car, dusting his hands off as it were, and otherwise surprised by the embrace (let's say for the sake of Hollyweird that he didn't get a look at her face before the embrace), I can see this happening.

Either that or he'd just got done smoking a big-assed doobie and was off in his own little world....

Why would someone admit this let alone volunteer it?

I have wondered this since I first heard it this morning!

The fact that he's hitting on anyone at Farrah's funeral is a little weird.

I do have a funny similar story about my own parents at a funeral though.  My dad's sister passed away.  We live in Pittsburgh, the funeral was in Philly.  My parents were the only ones going from here.

My sister (their daughter) was able to go at the last minute.  She hopped on a plane after my parents were already on the road on the way there.

At the funeral my mom spies my sister.  She and my dad walked up to her and my mom says "Wow, you look remarkably like our daughter!".   My dad chimes in with "boy, you really do.  It's amazing".  My sister responded, "well, that would be because I am your daughter".    It was both of them and they had just seen her a couple days prior to the event.  At least O'Neill probably hadn't seen Tatum in a while.

No one in the extended family will ever let my folks forget their senior moment.  In their defense, we are large Irish family and you know how all us Irish folk look a like.  I probably have a couple dozen cousins that all look the same.  :-)

Two things are seriously wrong wit this.

1. He's hitting on his daughter

2. He didn't even wait for Farrah to be carried off to her grave. They say that Hollywod is about as wierd as it can get out there.

Wasn't he also an abuser?  And didn't she play the part of the abused wife in The Burning Bed ?  the part must have hit close to home.

In his defence, weird things do happen at funerals, why he felt the need to relate his experience can be due to the tremendous stress he was under.

Farrah was ill for quite a long time, all the false reports of her impending death, watching her go down hill every day and being unable to help her in any way.

We all will someday have a parent, child ,spouse that fights for life for months. They will amaze us with their will to live.  We can do nothing to help them, no amount of money or fame will turn back the clock.

When your loved one is finally overtaken with the inevitable and the stress is gone, people have a time of adjustment to the loss of Adrenalin and flight or fight.  Some of the survivors find their immune system has been lowered due to the sudden loss of stress.

Odd what Ryan tells about, but not unusual as their son was up to his neck in problems.

I don't think Ryan is a Woody Allen kind of person, I think he was discombobulated with all he had to handle and needed to tell his daughter how beautiful she is.   And get some kind of amusing story to break up the stark reality of what he was doing.
