I didn't realize there was a difference.  I assume I grew up eating the oval ones... I don't remember any watermelons resembling green basketballs when I was a child.

Per JohnnyReb here, the ones they grow over down there in South Carolina are round.

We get round watermelons up here, from Texas.

But I always preferred the big oval ones, which come from anywhere.

I dine on watermelon clear into the white part, just below the skin.

I have  a quarter of a watermelon in the refrigerator -- I assume its an oval one, but I can't really tell at this point.

I was going to try watermelon juice as described by the defrocked warped primitive on Skins's island, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Her "recipe" was confusing, though; the defrocked warped primitive suggested one send the red stuff through the blender, and then "pick out the seeds."

It doesn't make sense, because when seeds go through a blender, they get pulverized, and it'd be pretty difficult picking out microscopic slivers of seeds.

When I get around to trying it, I think I'll take out the seeds first.

I suppose the warped primitive has one of those expensive juicing machines.  I would put it in a blender and then run it through a strainer afterward.

I've never noticed if there is a difference in taste, although I assume there probably is one, at least a little bit.

But oval watermelons look more natural.

I got a round one in the fridge right now. I guess I buy whatever is on sale. I do perfer the seedless ones.

I love the round dark green sugar baby watermellons. I lived in Muscatine, IA for a while...they were known for the melons. The watermellons were nice also.  :evillaugh:

Every few feet there was a roadside produce stand. It was great.

Ditto. Picking the seeds out and squeezing them between thumb and forefinger to "shoot" them at your PITA sister was one of my fave kid activities. It got to where I could nail her in the head 3 out of 5 tries.  :evillaugh:

Even if you put it in a juicer, the seeds get separated out with the pulp.
