Hmmm.

One suspects the sparkling husband primitive's been double-checking his food and drink, to see if the sparkling husband primitive's wife has hasn't been putting something into it.

Salt should be tasteless

I don't know where I heard this, but it made perfect sense to me.

If you taste salt's presence or absence, you've seasoned improperly.

Oh, I dunno.  Some of us actually like the taste of salt.

Without salt, the human race would be dead.

Some of us even dip our finger into a bowl of it, and lick the finger.

That is, if no one else is looking.

1. That's how it should be but too many people are used to eating fast food and convenience food, both types of which are absolutely loaded with salt to compensate for loss of flavor during processing.

I've been on a low salt diet since I was a kid, thanks to parental high blood pressure. I find I can't manage a lot of restaurant food and practically no processed stuff, all I can taste is salt. Forget chips and microwave popcorn, just can't do those at all.

Conversely, people who are used to the standard US diet are going to find everything tastes like cardboard for the first month they go on a low salt diet. Lemon juice helps but not much.

Salt, therefore, is a very individual thing. It's always best to use less in cooking and allow people to suit themselves at the table, IMO.

2. Isn't it strange, when you taste something, think "It needs salt," you add salt, taste it again, and it's just right?

But it doesn't taste salty.

It's like magic. Always tickles me.

I've been trying out new salts, in small ventures, and it's fun to find how different some tastes are depending on which salt I use. There really is a difference!

This place has a fun selection - http://www.salttraders.com/StoreFront.bok

They even sell salt licks -

There's a local gyro/sub shop around here... I think pepper is the only spice they have in the entire kitchen.  Their food is pretty bland and flavorless.

It would really be a fun evening, going with DUmmy Warpy to a nice restaurant. But none of her neighbors will socialize with her, I'm sure, because she's such an angry, mean person, and then there's the terrible problem that has led to her being unemployable as a nurse. And probably also beause she is so violently, shockingly ugly she would cause a little puff of smoke to issue from your wristwatch, after which it would never run again.

Most likely, if people were forced to dine with her, say, for example, at some kind of neighborhood function, I'd be willing to bet every one of them would show up carrying an encyclopedia volume, or some kind of professional journal, and spend the evening turning pages while absent-mindedly picking at their food.

Speaking of spices, I went to a local oriental place a while back. They had to shakers on the table. I knew the one with the white stuff was salt. I assumed the one with the dark stuff was pepper, but I was apparently very mistaken. It took me two days to get rid of the taste. Any idea what it could have been?
If you want to worship an orange pile of garbage with a reckless disregard for everything, get on down to Arbys & try our loaded curly fries.

Could have been some odd breed of pepper... there are dozens of different types.  I've found some of the strangest stuff at those hole-in-the-wall places.

GOBUCKS, speaking of eating out with DUmmies, yesterday I was at the Taco Bell.  The people after me were the biggest moonbats.  He was sporting hippie sandals, a shirt with spotted owls all over it, and a gray long ponytail.  His wife looked like a circus freak, about 4 foot tall and 80 lbs.  They went into the fussiest order I've ever heard, demanding certain things to be certain ways, and all vegan of course.

Who would be stupid enough to go to Taco Bell for vegan food?

Salt supposed to be tasteless? WTF? I add salt to food that's bland all the time just so it HAS a flavor.

I don't know how many Taco Bell workers speak Gaelic, but it would work well in English or Spanish too ;-)

salt should be tasteless, thereby not being able to taste it...  but you lose to little if you can't taste it...

Man this guy is not right in the head.

Strange thing salt.

On fruits, oranges, grapefruit, apples, watermelon and cantaloupe, salt makes the fruit taste sweeter then if you had put sugar on it.

I don't know if the acid base changes when in contact with salt but when I make an apple pie with Granny Apples I use less sugar and more salt, Lemmon Pie the same, just a  bit of a tang----too sweet is boring.
