$103,000 fine for speeding violation. What's the country? (could help with health care reform costs

Finland.

5. The Crime: In 2004, the heir to a family sausage empire, Jussi Salonoja, (that’s his name, not the empire’s name. But doesn’t he SOUND like a type of sausage??), was busted in Helsinki for driving 50mph in a 25mph zone.

The Fine: 170,000 euros, or about $204,000! (And that, my friends, is the present record.)

1. The Crime: In 2002, Anssi Vanjoki, a big-wig at Nokia, was caught on his Harley in Helsinki doing 47mph in a 31mph zone.

The Fine: 116,000 euros, or $103,600!

In Finland, speeding tickets are based not only on how fast you’re going when you get nabbed, but on your net income.

Good for them.

One looks ahead to see if Pedro Picasso's shown up here, but alas, no, he hasn't.

Pedro Picasso some months ago boasted about driving 120 mph through Massachusetts, and 130 mph through Pennsylvania.  I suspect Pedro Picasso needs some road rage-anger management counseling.

2. Sounds like extortion to me

116,000 euros is a ridiculous fine for going 16 miles over the limit if it were not a dangerous situation, no matter who the speeder was.

4. $20 is ridiculous for someone living at the poverty level. 116,000 euros is nothing if you're worth 50 million.

5. Finland, what a practical, sensible nation.

They understand that it is not that the fines should be equal, but that all who suffer them shall feel equal pain.

6. Damn Socialism.

The rich should not have to suffer like the others.

Didn't Pa Kettle in the White House just the other day say that he wouldn't take the medical insurance being offered by his "plan," for his own family, that the rich Pa and Ma Kettle want something better for themselves and their daughters?

How's that fit in?

8. "Hey Kid, you got a liscense?"

"Uhm, I got a learner's permit, need someone over 18 in the car when I drive."

"Ok, you have a summer job?"

"Not yet."

"Great, how'd you like to make $20 driving me to the airport, I'm running late?"

"Sure thing, mister."

The Crime: 2012, Henry Henderson, (16) was clocked at 98 in a school zone.

Speeding fines doubled.

The Fine: 75 cent.

On the other hand, it's a great way to decrease teen age unemployment.

I know at least one or two Little Goons have equity in their mud huts.  I'd love to see one of them get a $6500.00 parking ticket based on that equity.  Little Goons seem to forget not all of their wealth is between the couch cushions.

Same principle as those who believe the cost of retail items should determined by how much one is worth.  A poor man buys a hammer at Sears for $1, and it cost a rich man $10,000 for the same hammer.  There's no reasoning with idiots like that.

DUmbest DUmpmonkey flinging of the day so far.  Equal means equal to all regardless of everything else.  Justice must be blind to such notions.  The DUmmies are ideologically incapable of understanding that.

To be fair, the DUmmie did say "Net income," not "Net worth."  Not that it would be sound thinking to assume the OP got that right factually, of course.

If I am getting fined on a sliding scale of income, then I want access to the roads on the same sliding scale.  I pay more in taxes,  I get to use the road more with less intrusiions of the poor driving old cars camping in the left lane.

Works both ways as far as I am concerned.
You see, I don't care you how feel.  I really don't.  More importantly, neither does anyone else.  Only about 200 people on a planet of 7 billion actually care about your feelings, and that's if you're lucky.  The sooner you grasp this lesson, the better off you will be.  And since almost no one gives a damn what you do, say, think, or feel, appealing to your feelings when you encounter differences of opinion is not only illogical, but useless.

The Little Goons don't know the difference.  The fact there are some very rich people with zero income proves it.

So, DUmmy, when's your flight?  Can I give you a lift to the airport?  Carry your bags for you?
