Charged for allowing her son to become obese

SOUTH CAROLINA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A mother is being charged with neglecting her obese teenage son.

Born and raised in South Carolina, Alexander Draper grew up to reach a dangerous 555 pounds by the age of fourteen. That's when law enforcement stepped in.

1. i don't know about this. how do they know she hadn't tried to help him??

i mean... especially teenagers who don't listen to anybody. I have a ten year old who will go into the kitchen and sneak food after she just ate lunch and I told her no more. She does that all the time. I'll catch her getting into something... I'm HUNGREEEEE! but you just ate lunch!! get out of here!!!!

2. That's harsh

From the article: Gray, released from jail Monday on $50,000 bond, says she does not have enough money to get her son the treatment he needs

When I read things like this the old term "slippery slope" comes to mind.

It's like people are going to jail, or being charged at least for being stupid. The family needs the state to HELP them, not send the mother to jail. If the help doesn't work or there is obvious abuse, then yes, law enforcement may need to be called in.

Something just doesn't seem right here.

Whenever franksolich looks at Skins's island, "slippery slope" is ALWAYS just about the first term that comes to mind.

5. I ah ah wonder if she is a minority

Nothing in the article about the "Baby Daddy" --- where is the father? Oh, we won't chase him, we''ll just beat up this boys caretaker and put her in jail

Good thing we need more cops in amerika

3. Good, even if they get the kid's weight under control,

His run up to over five hundred pounds probably took years off of his life. How can a parent just sit by and allow that to happen? Negligence at the least.

4. I saw a piece on TV about this

The DA said they had offered the mom programs for her kid. Mom said they didn't offer to help her pay for them and since she is unemployed, she can't afford them.

That put a different spin on it.
apres moi, le deluge

Milo Yiannopoulos "It has been obvious since 2016 that Trump carries an anointing of some kind. My American friends, are you so blind to reason, and deaf to Heaven? Can he do all this, and cannot get a crown? This man is your King. Coronate him, and watch every devil shriek, and every demon howl."

When I was a skinny kid...Momma ruled the kitchen...not us...I guess times have changed.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin
