I haven't tried the state rep idea, but I talked with all the government based labor agencies I could find and none of them deal with contract employment. Apparently we don't exist.
Contract law, be it agreements for employment, or virtually anything else, are a large portion of first-year law school.  You, DUmmie, can't even come up with a decent bouncy.
No cops, no bushes, no conversion.  Zero bongs.  Oh, and a $450K house?  Where, CA?  We have another word for a $450K house in CA--they're called shitboxes.
If recovering $34K was so friggin important to you, you wouldn't be pissing and moaning about getting some legal advice for free.  You'd pay the lawyer the $150-200 per hour or have him work on contingency, especially if you had such a slam-dunk case.  Otherwise, I smell bullshit.
