The Glorious 1st Of June! And Happy Monday!!!
« on: June 01, 2009, 08:00:02 AM »
Good day Cave Dwellers!

Absolutely gorgeous day here today.  70's and a hint of thunderstorms in the air but sunny right now.

I am nursing a sore ass. We went sailing over the weekend on a boat that belonged to a friend of my BIL and it was choppy as hell.  My daughter and I were sitting on the topdeck just ahead of the side stays and every time we tacked the boat would heel almost 45 degrees and we would slide up with our butts on the edge of the topdeck.  It got bouncy.  I have actual bruising and I feel like the new guy in Cell Block 12. :-)

Had to hit the health club yesterday with said wounded arse and wasn't the recumbent bike a frigging joy to ride. :p

I have to run a bunch of errands today and take the Mancub into the Dentist to get his fangs looked at.

Anybody got anything spectacular like jet packs or romance in their forcast for today?

The Glorious First of June (also known as the Third Battle of Ushant, and in France as the Bataille du 13 prairial an 2 or Combat de Prairial)was the first and largest fleet action of the naval conflict between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the First French Republic during the French Revolutionary Wars. The British Channel Fleet under Lord Howe attempted to interdict the passage of a vitally important French grain convoy from the United States, which was protected by the French Atlantic Fleet, commanded by Louis Thomas Villaret de Joyeuse. The two forces clashed in the Atlantic Ocean, some 400 nautical miles (741 km) west of the French island of Ushant.

The action was the culmination of a campaign that had criss-crossed the Bay of Biscay over the previous month. Both sides had captured numerous merchant ships and minor warships and had engaged in two partial, but inconclusive, fleet actions. The aftermath of 1 June 1794 left both fleets shattered and in no condition for further combat. Despite losing seven ships of the line, Villaret bought enough time for the French grain convoy to reach safety. However, he was also forced to withdraw his battle-fleet to port, leaving the British free to conduct a campaign of blockade for the remainder of the war. Both sides claimed victory. The result of the battle was seized upon by the press of both nations as a shining example of the prowess and bravery of their respective navies.

When I was a kid I LOVED June.  School's out.  My birthday.  Hot weather.  Nothing to do.

Now I dread June.  School's out.  My birthday.  Hot weather.  Nothing to do.

My uber-liberal co-worker still believes in Gore-bull warming, despite the 35 degree low and frost warning this morning.  Yay.

Dayuum Sparks...  You guys are still dealing with the cold up there?  I have cut my lawn about 6 times all ready.  Damnit. We have been edging into full blown summer for a few weeks.

I will be returning to work after my visit from Mr. Flu last week. The first couple days of the month are always really busy at work. Enjoy.

Enjoying Monday, 'cause the weekend kicked my arse!  5 baseball games in 2 days (2 days of double headers for my older son, with a roster of 11 players!).

1st dress rehearsal at dance tonight, and I'm selling tickets as well.   June 14th can't come soon enough!

Weather is beautiful though, so I can't complain.  Have most of the laundry done, kitchen cleaned and nothing else planned for the afternoon.

My oldest son is at Hershey Park on the 8th grade trip, daughter has finals all week, and my little guy is in the "last week of school" play activities.

Had a good night's rest and am feeling somewhat better.  I called my father this morning, to look into being seen by one of his colleagues at the hospital he works at (my dad's not really comfortable with the idea of working on family...can't really blame him, but he knows some other great doctors who he could at least consult with on my case).  He'll have one of them call me later.

I might still be able to get student insurance through my college, also, which would be rather similar to what I had with BCBS.

Today, I'm just going to relax, do some shopping, and enjoy the day. :)

I'm enjoying the lower temps here. Gonna be in the mid 80's all week. On top of that, the kidlet is going to Grandma's place Tues, and then will spend the rest of the week with her cousin.
I'm definitly feeling spring, rather "frisky". The wife refuses to bend over anywhere near me.

Been doing reports all morning and early afternoon. Did some work for the other half.

It's a sunny day again!! Laid by the pool over the weekend and am going out there in a bit, supposed to be up near 90 today and tomorrow with thunderstorms coming in.

Just so it isn't storming on Friday morning when I fly up to Maine, I can deal. Just thrilled to be flying on Continental, and on that mickeymouse local out of Newark to Bangor...<a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZN%2526i%253D36%252F36%255F1%255F7%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank">SmileyCentral.com" border="0

Just another day.  Yawn.  And I have a feckin' sore inside my mouth that refuses to heal.  I hate those.

One more day and I get a day off.  Wooo.

Summer semester begins tomorrow  :bird: so I'm having some fun this evening with vodka, cranberry juice and YouTube.  I'm finding all these "movies in 5 seconds" clips to laugh at.  My room-mates think I've lost my mind, it seems.  :lmao:
