Oh my.  This is too new to garner many responses yet; I'll check it later.

According to MSNBC, Democrats have promised Specter not to field another Dem candidate in 2010

So instead of seeing him go down against Toomey, then beat Toomey with a real Democrat (which would be easy given what a hard rightwinger Toomey is), we're going to just accept Specter into our party indefinitely instead of being totally rid of him in 2 years?

It's not like he's going to suddenly start voting differently. This sounds like a big waste to me.

1. Sounds like a back room deal, if Specter runs unapposed then wins in November, what's to stop him from switching back?

2. Specter wanted into the party and out of the horrible situation with the GOP he was in, and freedom to vote his conscience.

Maybe he might surprise us--not on everything, but he's pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-environment...sounds like more of a Democrat than Evan Bayh, and we keep him around.

He also gave us two great Supreme Court justices.

Shove that up your asses and smoke it, primitives.

I am surprised they are not falling over each other welcoming him.  :censored:

I hope toomey (sp)? kicks his ass.

Ya, you just keep on believeing that....................I think you Dimwits have a BIG surprise coming.

Oh, I have absolutely NO faith in the people of PA. None. How else to explain their continued landslide support for Murtha even after accusing one of his own constituents of murdering in cold blood? After costing that poor family their retirement, their savings, a 2nd mortgage just to pay legal fees incurred, in part, because of his irresponsible comments while there was still an investigation pending. His constituent was cleared of all charges and still NO apology. I'm sorry, but the people of PA seem more concerned with making sure they have the biggest slice of pork possible while screwing anyone who gets in Murtha's way. Semper Fi indeed!

In a sense the DUmmie is correct. Against Toomey we know Specter is doomed with respect to republicans but Toomey may not survive a serious democrat challenger. At least now conservatives in PA have a genuine choice and Toomey deserves the backing the GOP should have given him back in 2004 before Bush shafted him at the behest of the machine. Toomey is shaping-up to be the practical appraisal of Obama's mid-term grade. The GOP should/ought to be looking for blood in this fight (alas, my faith is dimmed).
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Never demand that which you are incapable of taking by force, DUmmie.

Yeah, it's hard to have much faith in those bible-clinging "rednecks" and "racists" in PA. Not sure what would have to happen for them to say, ENUFF! That said, I have seen on many boards today where people from all over the country were sending him a few $$. I have heard him compared to Palin, stance wise, and it seems one of the primatives knew this, too. Wouldn't it be a hoot if old Arlen got knocked out? I can still remember him raising hell when the Clarence Thomas hearings were going on. Whither did thou goest, O Arlen of yesteryear?
There is no virtue in compulsory government charity, and there is no virtue in advocating it. A politician who portrays himself as caring and sensitive because he wants to expand the government's charitable programs is merely saying that he is willing to do good with other people's money. Well, who isn't? And a voter who takes pride in supporting such programs is telling us that he will do good with his own money— if a gun is held to his head.
