Somalia was poised for its best chance at regaining some stability, after years as an essentially failed state of rival Warlords -- and the Bush Administration intervened. This time, they had convinced Ethopia to invade and prevent the fledgling government from taking hold. Why? Because the Administration was at war with Islam instead of terrorism.

Somalia has always had a large population of Muslims, but Al Qaeda had little success exploiting it because Islam in Africa tends to be a less militant form, and a completely different animal than that found in the mountains of Afghanistan. That is, until the Bush Administration decided to prevent the Islamic faction of Somalia from taking hold, thus making the country descend, again, into anarchy.

What had spooked the Administration was that an uprising of public support for the Islamic Courts in Somalia had usurped the warlords, and was on its way to unifying the nation behind some form of government -- not perfect, but a government, nonetheless.

So the Administration supported an invasion of Christian Ethiopians with money, intelligence and supplies.

What was the US's greatest blunder since 9/11, according to one expert? Odds are, you haven't even heard of it.

Few know that in 2006, the US backed an Ethiopian invasion that ended Somalia's best chance at a government in a generation, mostly due to ideology. The result, is an occupying army that was supposed to have been out in a few weeks, and resurgent Islamic group more radical than ever, and a population more anti-American than ever before due to "floating prisons" -- US Navy vessels turned into Abu Ghraibs.

Going back almost three years so soon?

Is there anything that GWB could not do?
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin
