St Paddy's Day marathon..
« on: February 09, 2008, 07:08:26 PM »
so, of course... we've only hit the gym twice and my three girlfriends want to try a marathon..

its a small one, just a little over 3 miles but it sounds like a blast.. its something i could run/walk (mostly) and the party afterwards sounds fun.

anyone else been to one?

or run one?

That's not a marathon, that's a walk to the store.   :rotf:

I have a co-worker who does three or four marathons a year.  And then there's Dean Karnazes...

You're doing a 5K?  Not a bad start.

I've done full marathons--LA (twice), Vegas, and a whole bunch of half-marathons.

My goal is to be ready to do the Durango Double this year, and hope I have the money to fly to Colorado to do it.  It's a 25K or 50K trail run on Saturday followed up by a marathon on Sunday.  Only problem is, when you're used to running at lower elevations like me, suddenly going up to 7000-7500 feet and doing one can be a bit of a chore.

Huzzah!  You're the only other person I've met who has read it.

He was on Letterman some time last year.  He also tried (and failed, I think) to break the world's record for longest distane run on a treadmill in 24 hours.

So freakin what?  The guy ran BADWATER, fer Chrissakes.  I can't even STAND outside in Baker in August, let alone run 135 miles in it.

I hurt just trying to read that part of the book.  Ouch.

I think he came in the top ten at the last BW.

my husband's cousin is an Ironman in Canada and does that hellaciously hot marathon where its in the desert somewhere... i dont have any aspirations to do that kind of stuff.

im just there for the party :-)

I hear that--a couple of years ago I ran the Pacific Shoreline half (13.1 miles) and at the end we got coupons for free beer.

THAT, boys and girls, was an interesting day.
