Attorney: Justice Memos Prove U.S. Did Not Torture
« on: April 17, 2009, 04:25:44 PM »

At least one high-profile attorney says the declassified Department of Justice memos detailing interrogation techniques prove the U.S. did not torture, even as the ACLU and some lawmakers claim the memos are proof positive the Bush administration did.

David Rivkin, a constitutional lawyer and member of the Council on Foreign Relations, released a statement Friday saying the release of four memos provides a "great benefit" to the former president.

"This data is analyzed in great detail to establish that the use of these techniques does not inflict either physical or psychological damage," said Rivkin, who served in the administrations of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. "The conclusions (the) memos reach -- that the specific interrogation techniques used by the CIA did not constitute torture -- are eminently reasonable."

That right there is enough to discredit his opinion in the eyes of many on the left, not that they would have paid attention to it anyway.  Why does Nadler have a hard on for Bush, is his seat in jeopardy?

Hi,

Our Tampa paper ran the story reprinted from the New York Times.  Lets just say the first sentence started with "describing brutal interrogation techniques" and went downhill from there.  Once into the text, the techniques were such things as sleep deprivation, releasing insects into their room to frighten them, putting them in small confining rooms etc.  Most all the techniques, including waterboarding for that matter, are designed to scare the hell out of the person being interrogated.  Torture, in my opinion, is the kind of stuff like electric shock, pulling out fingernails with pliers, beatings, the kind of things the other guys do.  I would love to teach a class and get some of these nitwit newspaper columnists and show them the difference.  By the time I got done, they would understand what torture is really all about.

Typical New York Times garbage by the time I got finished.

Now I wanted to scream.  Why was there no mention of the brutality the terrorist inflict upon innocent civilians?  Why was there no mention of the fact that terrorists were specifically excluded from protection under the Geneva Convention because they do not fight under the rules of war?  Why was there no mention of the fact that journalists, one of their own kind, were beheaded by Muslim terrorists?

You can go on and on but the damn liberals think these folks should be treated with kid gloves like US citizens, which they are not.  They gave up all their rights when they decided to become terrorists.  I could care less what methods are used to extract information.  If it saves the life of one innocent civilian or one American man, woman or child, then it is damn well worth the effort.

As one sign said at the Tea Party this week, "There is no cure for stupid!"

Amen to that,

So you make someone feel like they're drowning without doing anything that would cause them to actually drown and that's torture?  So when my wife lays her legs across mine and it makes me feel trapped, should I accuse her of torture?  Maybe claustrophobics should sue elevator manufacturers.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

So basically, what we subjected detainees to is considered "torture" in the eyes of the left, but multiply that on a scale of 10,000 on the number and gross-out scale, and you have an episode of Fear Factor.

Got it.

Oh, and lurking DUmmies, please show me ONE instance of where AlQ or our enemies in the last 50 years have adhered to the Geneva Conventions.  The, "we have to treat OUR prisoners with kid gloves or else they'll be mean to our troops" meme has been proven to be crap time and again.  They torture our people anyway--and I don't mean with a caterpillar in a box.

And Obama released them, thereby making sure that all those guys who are willing to die, (along with a few dozen women and children), for Allah, now KNOW that our "torture" is all fluff.  The techniques will no longer work because these guys know that they won't actually be harmed in any way.  Our reporters and DUmmies aren't smart enough to actually read the memos, but you can bet every dollar you have that every terrorist recruiter now has multiple copies to use for recruitment tools.  I can hear them saying, "Do not worry if in infidels capture you, they are not allowed to do anything but frighten you.  Remain true to Allah and our cause, and you will win your virgins after you are released."

Obama just handed them the  :censored: win.   :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Every time I see this crap my blood boils. I just want these lefty loser whiny pants to spend ONE day with my ex, Mr. I Like to Torture. And the stuff on the memos is a joke compared to what he does. I agree, this seems like such a good idea, let's let our enemies see how we interrogate, so they can be well prepared in advance. Dumbasses.
There is no virtue in compulsory government charity, and there is no virtue in advocating it. A politician who portrays himself as caring and sensitive because he wants to expand the government's charitable programs is merely saying that he is willing to do good with other people's money. Well, who isn't? And a voter who takes pride in supporting such programs is telling us that he will do good with his own money— if a gun is held to his head.
