You know what I've never seen proposed by any of those nutballs? Tax deductibility for pregnancies that carry over from one year to the next.

It wouldn't be all that difficult to do, either. A doctor's report of pregnancy on December 31 would serve as sufficient proof for tax purposes. The next year, you'd have to close out the pregnancy by either providing a doctor's report of miscarriage, a letter from the court when you gave your baby up for adoption, or your newborn's social security number.

The strange thing is, I'm pro-choice and childless, but I think this would be a very fine thing to do--because pregnancy is very expensive and insurance requires copayments, not to mention all the things insurance does not cover like cribs and car seats. Hell, I'll even go with a one-year double deduction for any child that was conceived and born in the same year.
 

Wasn't the DUmp advocating charging people for having kids just a couple days ago?   :lmao:

Actually, I rather like that idea of the mowing primitive.

The IRS already allows deductions for medical expenses exceeding 7.5% of an individual's AGI.  As for cribs, car seats, etc etc, only a DUmmy would plan a pregnancy as a way of extorting more cash from the government.

We got through our pregnancy just fine.  It's amazing how you can get everything together for a reasonable price if you don't shop at Babies R Us.

Considering I don't even pay taxes already, how the hell am I going to get deductables?

My sister gave away so much new baby stuff, I'm surprised anyone has to buy it new with the amount of used baby stuff availible.  And most women will gladly give that stuff away just to get it out of their homes as their kids get older.

Totally.  We've bought maybe 3 outfits for our son.  His crib and a few toys are the only things we've bought for him brand new.  Everything is second hand, and it's all perfectly fine.

Hell, even diapers are something we've gotten a lot of.  Last week was the first time we've had to buy diapers since November.

Our carseats were worn out before they were outgrown, so they weren't worth giving away, but our crib, we had in our storage for quite a while, until one of Mr Flame's co-workers needed one, and was struggling...she offered to pay for it, but we just gave it to her.  I rarely sell stuff, but rather give it to someone who needs it, once I'm done with it.

The cribs, car seats, etc etc are partially expensed out through IRS exemption for dependents.You are allowed one exemption for each person you can claim as a dependent. You can claim an exemption for a dependent even if your dependent files a return.

Even the copayments aren't that bad...when I was pregnant, the doc's office sent me a letter that said, "This is what your expenses from our office to be. Insurance will cover X amount, so your total amount owed is Y." It was only something like $200, which if you do the math ($20 per visit, one visit a month for 6 months, two visits a month for 1 month, once a week for one month) I ended up saving money. Doctor + hospital fee ended up being....$400? Maybe? So this DUmmy that says it's too expensive...I disagree. Or maybe I just have really good insurance.

Once the baby is here...different story. :)

This whole thing is an exercise in stupidity!

I had two children, a boy and a girl. Very rarely did I have to expend my money on anything the babes needed! My daughter had a crib that had been in the family for more than 20 years! It was an heirloom! Greatgrandma and Granpa bought the boy's!

Walkers, strollers, high chairs, diaper pails, hell, even diaper service was either furnished at the baby shower or were recirculated throughout family and friends!

The only cost involved was medical, which by the way was covered by insurance, 'cause I know better!
