Cash 4 Gold
« on: January 31, 2009, 06:03:49 PM »
We've all heard the Cash 4 Gold commercials and I'm sure that we've all realized you'd be ripped off by them.

A blogger investigates.  Sends in scrap gold, is offered a pittance, declines their offer.  So they offer to "manipulate the numbers for his benefit" and offer him near market value.  Albeit still less than what a pawn shop offered.

Blogs about it...

Cash 4 Gold proceeds to write him, asking that he not blog negative about them, and they even offer cash.  Than proceeds to state, that another consumer site took the cash, so should they!

I always figured that they'd offer some lowball price to their customers. I never figured that it would be much worse than pawn shop prices, but...... they gotta pay for all of their advertisements somehow.

I always give people too much credit I guess.  I assumed anyone who saw those commercials (except for DUmmie-types) would automatically see the deadend ahead in such a transaction.

Once you slip your assets blindly into the mailbox, you are surrendering control.  Who would put themselves in such a situation on purpose?

Did you see their ads during the Super Bowl?    :whatever:

Idiots. I noticed a lot of these "cash for gold" commercials are on in the early afternoon when a lot of the unemployed or underemployed are up watching TV with nothing to do. The commercials are usually run along with the ones for "Check Into Cash" and the 1-800 Safe Auto (crappy overpriced insurance) ads.

No, I missed it.  I was doing other things while watching the game.  I cannot sit still that long.

They have Ed McMahon stumping for them now.  Time has not been kind to him.

At this point in McMahon's financial life, he would huck for 1-800-LUVSATAN if it meant a check coming in.

I never buy or get involved in anything I see advertised on TV like that.  Not Snuggies, not Shamwows, and not Cash4Gold.  And if anyone reading this has ever fallen for those commemorative coin commercials, shoot yourself now because you are too stupid to allow to continue to live.  The worst one is the one where "for the first time ever, two numbers - 9 and 11 - add up to the full value" of the item.  That one makes me want to throw heavy metal tools at the screen.

I laugh at how they make it sound as if these coins are some sort of investment.  They want us to believe they will grow in value.

If you believe it, I have a commemorative plate of "A Chorus Line" I'd like to sell you (no, I didn't buy it - it was a gift from an detached club co-member at a "Secret Santa" party many years ago).

I take "scrap gold" (usually in the form of dust of nuggets) in to a friend who is an agent for the Australian Mint. He cuts me a nice official check at current market prices.

If I had jewelery and the like that I wanted to sell as gold, rather than item value , it would be given a taste of the torch and sold as an ingot.

Trouble being, a lot of jewelery gold is not "pure" which makes it kinda hard to sell as gold rather than at item value.

No shamwows Jinx?  hehe  :)  That guy totally creeps me out.  It's like he can see through the tv and he knows I'm NOT buying shamwows, and he's going to stalk/brutally kill me in my sleep because of it.  Yikes!!  ;)   :mental:

I'm gonna assume it's this commercial.  I can't see youtube while at work, but this is what popped up on the Google search "Cash 4 Gold, MC Hammer"
