I had a tour through the computer room at this place
http://www.narrabri.atnf.csiro.au/public/
...
It was actually the least noisy large scale computer room I've been in, especially given the amount of processing , and storage hardware they have stuffed inside it.
Was a pretty amazing place. The whole room is in enclosed in a faraday cage and has a doorway more suited to a ships engine room. Some of their equipment has NASA/JPL tags on it (these two things looked more like safes that had been converted into a half height mounting rack)

The largest one I saw was the one for the state. It wasn't very loud.
The most prominent feature was the duplicate, backup network on the other side of the room. And the primary network was not small.
