Ever Have Someone In Your Family You Just Can't Understand?
   Advertisements [?]

I was over my aunt's for Christmas Eve last night. Her son and his family came over and I ended up talking with my cousin, who I absolutely adore. He's 20 years old and the near model of perfection. He's a straight-A student, goes to George Washington, is about 6'2" and slim, and currently works in D.C. for the Office of Management and Budget. He's the nicest kid I've ever met, a real sweetheart. He would do anything for anybody and is as respectful and any kid his age. He's also mature like you wouldn't believe.

And he's a die-hard Republican.

Not only a Republican, he's a Mitt Romney-supporting, Iraq War-supporting, wants-to-be-in-the-CIA-one-day Republican -- who thought Palin was the best thing that happened to McCain.

The weird thing is, his father is pretty much the definition of a blue-collar, hard-working, self-educated Democrat. He's a longshoreman, a union longshoreman. His parents (my aunt) had him when she was 16 and then got divorced shortly thereafter. They've never had much money, but he taught his son to read a lot and work hard in school, and he did. His family, who wouldn't have been able to afford to send him to college, had a son who got a full scholarship to G.W.

So everything worked out beautifully for them, which I'm really happy about because their family deserves it.

I just don't understand how the kid became a Republican.

That shit is going to keep me up at night.

Didja ever think that maybe the reason the kid is as good as you say and the fact that he is a Republican go hand in hand?
Maybe seeing his dem parents have a child when she was 16 and then split up taught him that live for the moment liberalism was not the path to follow.

1. Young Republicans.

2. Yes I do
I have a lot of Southern Baptists in my dad's family. Good people - but eh?

He's really not (forgive me) a supporter of the war in Iraq/Palin etc. etc. If he was - he'd be there or in Afghansitan right now. I don't know if that gives you hope - but if he put his life on the line where his mouth sits . . . I think there's hope to save him from himself.

Well, shit, I can understand why he became a Republican.

I dunno why the primitive can't.

She must be pretty stupid, if she can't figure it out.

5. Yes, two brothers.

We grew up in the same house but our political views are so vastly different. My two sisters are liberal (or thinking), so I just don't get them. My dad is also liberal.

Both brothers retired from the CG, both live in the south, both most surely watch faux and listen to limbaugh. I think this last bit has a lot to do with it. Neither think critically imo.

6. Your cousin is an idiot.
   He supports ...

Wars based on lies

Murder

Torture

Wiretapping

He also supports the destruction of our constitution. How the **** can you adore someone like that ? I would have told that traitor to get the **** away from me.

Words fail me.

It sounds to me that they taught the kid to be self reliant, work hard , pay your dues and you'll be a success . I think his dad may have been a republican at heart and imparted those ideals to his son.

or his dad may have been a democrat before democrats became complete idiots.  My parents were democrats, but changed with Reagan.   My sister is still a democrat, or claims to be.   She's democrat locally but has never voted for a national democrat because she is seriously pro-life.

They hate anything good, don't they.......sheesh! It's a wonder he didn't turn out to be a dope head loser....The magic rat would have been so proud of him then.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

25. what's not to understand? "i've got mine"
Edited on Thu Dec-25-08 12:25 PM by pitohui
btw this sweet kid who you think would do "anything" for you, just one time, ask him to do something hard such as loan you actual money instead of just holding a door

he won't do shit for you, that's what his beliefs mean

don't take my word for it, test him on this...and you'll see

a man may smile and smile and be a villain, even a young man, in fact, a young attractive man it's easier for him to get away with it

if he was 40 and spouting the same horseshit would you call him sweet? or would you see him for what he is?

the only reason you can't "understand" him is because, like most folks in a visual society, you can't see past a pretty young face -- the more i read your responses on this thread, the more i'm convinced of it

you don't see the ugliness because he's young, pretty, and kin, if he was old, ugly, and dick cheney and held the exact same beliefs, you wouldn't call him "sweet" no matter how perfect his manners

I fully expect that every resident on the island has taken a vow of poverty and happily turns over every cent that they don`t need (Internet connection) to survive to help those less fortunate then themselves.
Certainly every one of them has taken in a homeless person because that is the fair and just thing to do.

DUmmies you are the biggest bunch of ****ing liars and hypocrits the ages have ever seen and your hatred towards all that is decent and good is because it is a mirror showing you your own evil heart.

Union longshoreman and didn't have much money? Those guys start out at about $110K in California.  Lie number 1.

When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

What is ironic is that the very core of liberalism is based on hate, misogyny and racism.

What a effing load.

Hey DUmmies!  You really believe we were lied into an imperial war?  Do you really believe we are evil?  Do you really believe in unlimited abortions?  Well, get off yer ass and get to Iraq.  There you can face the imperialist American soldiers while providing abortions to Muslim women.

What?  What do you mean your aren't going to do that?  Hypocrites.

As far as not being willing to go there, I will be before the year is out.  You want to call me a hypocrite?  Just hop on a plane and fly over.  I promise I won't even behead you..
