Thursday.
« on: November 27, 2008, 10:14:14 AM »
Happy Turkey Day.

We are going to be a little more multi cultural here this year in celebrating Thanksgiving. In honor of the many native Americans who were killed or displaced by white European colonists we are going to be setting up a mini casino in the basement.

Little lull here between the big traditional breakfast and the annual cooking of the pies.

Kids have been watching the Macy's parade all morning. I tried, again, to watch it but dear Lord it still sucks, lol. Vapid interviews and PAINFULLY awkward staged MOTS shots set against an endless stream of freezing marching bands and big plastic product ads bobbing in the air.

Gobble-hum-bug.  :-)

Turkey goes in at 1pm.

Still waiting for my sister to arrive (it's now 11:24)...was told they were "leaving early" to get here, and they are 1 1/2 hours away.  Of course, 2 of them are 3 hours away, and as of 15 minutes ago, still hadn't left.  Irritates me, as I had planned on eating at 2ish.

Shoulda known, as my sister is NEVER on time.

Anyway, the plan still is to have dinner and stuff before kickoff of the Cowboys game.  Dessert at halftime or after the game, depending on stuffed everyone is.

And I'm watching the Macy's parade, as I enjoy the dance numbers.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!  :)

My family's getting ready to leave for Marshall, Tx... the turkey is done (cooking a 25 pound turkey can take awhile, so it was started yesterday LOL), so all we have to do is pack it up and take it with us.

I didn't wake up until 10am and am taking my time getting ready.  I'm about to walk out of the house to go to my mom's.

Then depending on what time I'm done over there, I'll head to my SIL's parent's house for a
little bit.

I'm not watching the Macy's Day Parade, I'm watching a guilty pleasure People's Court.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I have a slight hangover today, but other parts of my body are very happy  :naughty

Taking my mom and two neighbors out to dinner at 2 PM...to a huge buffet. They told my mom that I am like the "son they never had"....isn't that special  :mental: They are great folks with no family here in town.

One trip to Walmart later and the Turkey finally hit the roaster 15 minutes ago.

And I had to buy a GE 18 quart because the places that stock Nescos are closed today.

grrrrrr...

I am completely stuffed for the next few days.  :p   Dessert time came and went without a pumpkin pie.  In its place was an egg custard pie.  I was curious, so I tried it...delicious!  :-)

We came back a little early to watch the Cowboys on the new large flat-screen (another Sony) my dad bought for the upstairs entertainment room.

Did a turkey breast.  Turned out pretty well, actually.  Lots of leftovers for sandwiches, etc.

Mine ended up well.  I made it to my mom's around 11:30am and we ate around 2:30pm.  It was nice so we ate outside on the patio.  Then watched the Cowboy game.  All the food was delicious.  I was sent home with most of the leftovers.  :)

I got to watch Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.  I laughed, I cried, I laughed until I cried.

Ah man I might have to see this one now.

We watched "Hancock" earlier (Which was pretty cool) and are about to watch "Tropic Thunder".

It was hilarious.  Make sure it's the unedited version... the theater version is missing a few things.

Today was a good day.

I went shopping today for Toys For Tots.
My mother and I donated a cartful of toys. A retail chain had a great sale. I just happen to work for the same retailer/drug store, so my employee discount encouraged me to buy more!

Thanksgiving day sales were double compared to last year at this location.  :-) The staff was worn out!

Well, it's Friday.....had a most excellent Thanksgiving.....now pondering about painting my "warning sign" to America.

Wife got up early yesterday, got her cooking done, son got a bath even though he didn't sweat Wedesday and we arrived at her family Thanksgiving gathering 30 minutes early instead of the usual one hour late. YES! Wake up America for I have seen the signs, "THE END IS NEAR"

 :rotf:

I ain't believing I got to eat Thanksgiving dinner at 12:30 sharp as planned. It don't happen, ...... it just don't happen.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Well, I had a mixed holiday, part good, part bad.  Food was all excellent, compnay was excellent, my brother-in-law breaking his ankle, bad.

We ate, chilled, watched football, then the big kids and grownups decided to play Manhut (Which is sort of like a cross between tag and hide and seek in the dark, outside).  He was chasing someone, and stepped wrong, and the "wham" he was on the ground and his foot was swelling.  Sis took him to the ER after they left (after they dropped all the kids at home), and called me at 12:30 last night...yep, broken.

I thought for sure it would be my daughter who got hurt, she tends to be the one drama happens to on T-day!
