Obama chooses Holder to serve as AG

President-elect Obama has decided to tap Eric Holder as his attorney general, putting the veteran Washington lawyer in place to become the first African-American to head the Justice Department, according to two legal sources close to the presidential transition.

Holder, who served as deputy attorney general during the Clinton administration, still has to undergo a formal “vetting” review by the Obama transition team before the selection is final and is publicly announced, said one of the sources, who asked not to be identified talking about the transition process. But in the discussions over the past few days, Obama offered Holder the job and he accepted, the source said. The announcement is not likely until after Obama announces his choices to lead the Treasury and State departments.

Holder, 57, has been on Obama’s “short list” for attorney general from the outset. A partner at the D.C. law firm of Covington & Burling, Holder served as co-chief (along with Caroline Kennedy) of Obama’s vice-presidential selection process. He also actively campaigned for Obama throughout the year and grew personally close to the president-elect. Holder has not returned a call seeking comment; the Obama transition team did not respond to e-mail messages.

The sources said the Obama transition team is still debating over who should serve under Holder in the key post of deputy attorney general. One top candidate, favored by Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel and other former Clinton White House officials, is Elena Kagan, dean of the Harvard Law School and a former lawyer in the White House counsel’s office under Clinton. Another top candidate, favored by other Obama advisors, is David Ogden, a former chief of staff to Attorney General Janet Reno, who is currently heading Obama’s Justice Department transition team. Kagan brings legal policy credentials; Ogden has more experience in the Justice Department trenches.

There's some bitching among the Obamaite primitives.

Lots and lots and lots of bitching, and then this, Doug's ex-wife:

30. Rumsfeld and Cheney were experienced and qualified, too.

And the icing on the cake is that the "left" is still being demonized -- as if there is an actual "left" in the country.

44. So, you have no problem with someone who defended the murderers of thousands of Colombian union workers and labor leaders?

That's a little . . . odd.

54. AG is not a little appointment, especially considering that Justice is profoundly corrupted right now.

But, do we even know if this is true yet?

72. It sends a really unfortunate message to Latin America.

And, that's a shame.

60. Credit PeacePatriot, not me. Do we know if this appointment is a done deal?

I was really hoping we wouldn't send this signal to Latin America. Because what it looks like down there is problematic.

77. F#ck.

This is worse and sooner than I'd hoped it would be.

Ha-ha to Doug's ex-wife.

I have to ask-who is Doug?  I've lurked around the island for a few years, but have only been posting for a couple.  I know of Doug's ex wife as the one who spearheaded the 'save Andy Stephenson' saga, but no more than that.

Doug was the musician hubby of sexfat2000.  She basically denied him treatment for his mental illness and kept him chained in the basement so he wouldn't leave her stupid ass.  Then one magical day he saw a therapist who got him on a correct medication and made him see that his wife was the reason he was so insane.  He left her and she has been wallowing in self pity, communism, and stupidity ever since.

Good for Doug, then.  That explains quite a bit about her.  Thanks.

Holder is grossly incompetent.

Obama's judgement is poor and seriously flawed.   We are screwed if we get hit again.

Oh he's very competent.

Just look at all the dirt bags he's successfully gotten off the hook.

EDIT: This makes me wonder if Obama intends to be a dirt bag and knows ahead of time he's going to need a good mafia lawyer.

Stand-up comedian, but it is possible he plays music too; many do.

Remember how Doug's ex-wife threw him out onto the streets and sidewalks of San Francisco when his mental problem became "unmanageable"?

Now, Doug is a big guy, allegedly 6'3" (my height, but Doug probably has somewhat more bulk on him), and at the time, Doug's ex-wife was sort of petite, and so one could understand her fear of him.  But she could've called the cops or something to handle it.

But no, she locked him out, without money or spare clothes or anything.

He lived on the streets for about a week or so, when California Social Services finally did something about it.

It has been theorized, and probably accurately so, that Doug's ex-wife was trying to make him one of her "special projects," but got too demanding, too controlling, and ultimately Doug got tired of it.

Doug's ex-wife has gained considerable weight since she lost him.

Oh.

By mentioning Doug's ex-wife has added some bulk since the divorce, I assume.

You know, circa 10 years ago, Doug's ex-wife used to be somewhat of a beauty, what with all those northern Mediterraneac features; the classic ancient Roman matron.

She has a great honker, a wonderful sneezer.

I've noticed, as have most of you, that the overwhelming majority of Il Duce's appointees are ex-Clinton operatives.  I didn't like the Clinton years either, but there's one thing for certain that hasn't changed, and that is these ex-Clintonistas are out for themselves and can be bought and sold to the highest bidder.  That'll drive the loony libs absolutely more nuts.  So much for "change" as they viewed it would be.

One wonders what message the vicious attacks on Gonzales sent to Latin America?
