Generally speaking you are right -- but yes, there are times when you have to be very, very insistent. 

BTW:  If you have to wait over 2 hours as a result of a mechanical or other non-weather related problem the airlines is required to give you a voucher for food -- when they don't, that is when I get very, very insistent -- and loud.


I did get a voucher for $10 or $15. So did another guy....a business man traveling for work. There were 2 young priests-in-training waiting with us. We both gave ours to them. They weren't going to get where they were going until around midnight....and I figured they needed my voucher more than I did.

Such kindness always pays back in the long run.

Hey Free....have any places to recommend in New Orleans. We want to stay either in the Quarter or close to it and Harrah's.

We're thinking of going on Christmas Day and coming back on New Year's. We're driving which is why we're picking the holiday itself to drive on.

We've stayed at the W in the Quarter, but I don't want to stay there again. It was very nice, just want to stay somewhere different.

I've bookmarked a couple in the Quarter on TripAdvisor, but the comments are so varied. I also don't want to spend a fortune on a room....New Year's Eve and the night prior are wickely more money than the other nights.

Not that I have seen.  The day you depart is important -- Tuesdays and Wednesdays tend to be cheaper.  The day you purchase is only important in terms of its distance from the departure date.

Note: 21 says is the optimum event horizon.  Beyond (21+ days early) that it doesn't make much difference.  It can even hurt you (although Orbitz theoretically protects you from that).
