You know ...... pray ...... think good thoughts ....... phone in a lifeline, I'll take anything I can get.

I live in the south ...... and I work with a variety of fairly conservative women. You know, Bush folks ........ people who vote based on how someone makes them feel more than anything else. They called me last night (I was off) to see if I was watching the debate (which they knew I was.) And this morning they all wanted to know what I thought about their supercool phonecall (in which they were chanting "SARAH! SARAH! SARAH!") and what I thought about the debate.

I responded by asking them what THEY thought about the debate ...... they gave me positive comments about how well they thought Palin had done. "In what way?" I asked .... "well .......... (blank, glossey eyed look) I thought she did a really good job" or "she held her own against an experienced debater" or the worst comment, a "good democrat" who said that she thought both Biden and Palin came across as just regular folks, common folks (which was a compliment.)

I challenged them to think about what she said, and ask themselves if they felt like she was capable of leading this country. I told them I didn't need them to give ME an answer, just to come up with an answer before they went to the polls. They looked at me as if that was one of the stranger things they'd ever heard.

In short, I am surrounded by people who vote based on how cool they perceive someone to be. While I would LOVE to point out that voting for the "cool" guy is what got us into this current mess we are in, but they wont get that either.

Basically, I'm asking for help, advice, suggestions ...... anything to get me through this current high they're on. Or should I just hide from them? ...... I think that this will be a short lived high, even shorter than before. Without Palin being allowed into the mainstream media they wont have another opportunity to get pepped up again so maybe they'll be done by Monday.

I know one thing ........ I cannot WAIT for November 5th to roll around and, the morning after an Obama-Biden victory, I stroll into work ........ and say nothing.

If he's at work, he shouldn't discuss politics at all. Those women shouldn't either. As for voting for somebody because they're cool, isn't that why many are supposedly voting for Obama?
