RALEIGH North Carolina-- Lawmakers say they are about to right a wrong when it comes to rape victims in this state.



Earlier this year, it was discovered that a large majority of rape victims were forced to pay for their own rape kits at hospitals. It was also hitting hospitals in their pocketbook.

When a woman is raped, her body becomes the crime scene. Until recently in Missouri, she also could have to pay the bill to collect the evidence.

In August, the Missouri General Assembly passed legislation that makes the state responsible for all costs to collect evidence against the woman’s attacker. But state officials didn’t realize the extent of the need until it went into effect.

So, only 8 years after Palin's city was charging for these kits, states are passing laws to take over the funding...(and promptly running out of money, it seems.)   But yeah, it was totally Sarah's fault that Wasilla was charging for them.

I still don't see how charging an insurance company is the same as sticking the victims personally with the bill.
