Alice Vet Can't Get Passport

(August 15, 2008)


ALICE--A military veteran is frustrated tonight with the federal government. He served his country in the Vietnam War, but said the same government he fought for won't issue him a passport.

Because of 9/11, requirements are tougher to get a passport. Even though this veteran can get onto any military base in the country, he cannot get a passport due to homeland security.

Mario Marroquin,66, of Alice served two tours in the vietnam war. He wants to travel out of the country, but cannot get a passport.

"My dream was always going to peru to see the inca ruins," Marroquin said. "It always appealed to me, but can't go."

The State Department has denied his application for a passport due to Homeland Security rules. The reason: his birth certificate isn't valid because he was born in a house.

Wait until someone dies, who you know was born in another State.

Call that State's BVS, give them city and DoB, and , Presto!, instant Birth Certificate.

It cost me $31.

My mom was born in a house in Plainview, Texas.


She's got a passport.

My dad was signals intelligence for the USAF in the '60's.  Because of his security clearance when he was discharged they took his passport.


He got a new one about 10 years ago with no problem.


Something...IMHO is being left out of that story to make it more sympathetic to the subject.

My grandmother was born "on a kitchen table" according to family records. She did get an official birth cert. issued later in life and the place of birth is the town itself. She could get a passport if she needed one.

This guy is lying through his teeth. I was born at home(in a house) and I have a BC. It names the county where I was born. Too, to get a BC in my area you need ID such as utility bills in your name, etc. You can't just pick a name out in the obituaries and call in for a BC.

This article is full of shit.  They didn't even capitalize Peru or Inca.  Author doesn't know when to capitalize proper names, but writes for a credible news source?  Just a bit of PUMA journalism.
