JUst got a $35 overdraft
They wouldn't forgive a scheduling error on my part. It was supposed to go this week not last week.

The only rules that seem to matter are the ones that banks enforce on us.

Personal Responsibility Party....they can shove that right up their ass...
Yeah banks are just unforgiving dicks like that!  Imagine them getting upset because YOU screwed up and mailed a payment out early when you didn't have enough money in your account to cover the check!!! Bastids!  :whatever:

4. Oddly enough
I've had BoA for a very LONG time and have never had one problem with them. Ever. We did have 3 credit cards - His before our marriage, mine before our marriage and a joint one. We added each other to each other's card after marriage. 10 yrs in we hit a rough patch and 2 banks jacked up our interest rates. We had high balances on the card but never ever once was late. Not once. BoA never once tried to jack up our rate - kept it at the same 7.9% to this day.

though not crazy about any megabank - I have no complaints about BoA.

5. One of the main reasons I don't use the automatic payments for anything.
I put no trust in banks when it comes to them looking out for my interests.
Wait until you get a $400 "chargeback" for a bounced check that hadn't even been deposited to my account and the names didn't match. It took a week to get straightened out. And of course I get the notice of such in the mail at 4PM on a Friday. They had to give me back the $, write off the $250 in overdraft fees from their screwup, give me a letter I could take to everywhere that they bounced one of my checks to. As soon as it got straightened out and the last check I had written cleared, I closed the account.
I've been at my local credit union ever since and never a problem-they also have longer hours both in the drive-thru and the lobby, no monthly fees, if I do screw up they transfer money from savings to the checking and ONLY charge $4 for that.

We must be mutants.  Our bank actually covered a 100$ and a 70$ overdraft on our secondary checking account and our banker called to ask us if everything was okay because our account balance had been pretty low and the overdrafts were out of character.  He actually called concerned that something was wrong, illness or emergency or some such.  It happened when I was deployed doing stuff with the flooding and the rest of the family was taking a vacation simultaniously.  :thatsright:  When I told him what I was out doing he had them cancel the overdraft fees (Which were considerable) and transfered money over to cover things even though we don't have an overdraft protection program like that at our bank.  I love our bank.

How do these people dress themselves?
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

They will never learn to keep more money in the bank than they spend and not to write a check until the cash is in the bank. Really simple method and if they follow it they would never have to pay a bad check fee. It is not the bank's fault that someone can do simple math or know what day of the week it is.

Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 10:33 AM by iamthebandfanman

i also had a problem at my bank with an honest mistake(infact they tried to charge me TWICE for it... one for making the available balance go over and then again when the actual balance went over(even tho i deposited the same day)....

i was told to go speak to one of the people in charge(i forget her position title, but she was the highest bank official on the first floor with an office)
i was told i had asked to have overdrafts removed to much (which i hadnt asked for AT ALL to my knowledge)...

i asked around and it turns out she was just a cold hearted snide woman with no compassion...and that others had been critised for something that was indirectly their fault and no mercy was shown.
so, i closed my account and opened an account AT THE SAME BRAND BANK but at another branch(with a different head of that bank)...
i havent had a problem since...

i think it really depends on the people working at the bank you go to ...
i like using a big name bank as it saves all sorts of hassle when you travel, so i didnt wanna give it up... im glad there was another branch in my city.
i recently had an overdraft scare again and talked to the man in the same position at my new branch... didnt have a problem at all. instead of telling me how bad of a person i was and how i shouldnt be asking for a favor or help, i was told 'sure, ill take care of it for you.. just make sure you try not to let this happen again. these things happen though, so i understand where you are coming from.'

if you like your bank and dont wanna leave it for other reasons, look for another local branch if you have one...
i think youll find some banks are just friendlier than others... even if they are under the same brand name.

How long until the new branch gets tired of extending FREE credit?

Do these nuts actually believe that credits and debits applied to your account are done at the branch level?

Isn't that what over draft protection is all about? It can be tied to a credit card, savings or a line of credit. I have mine set up to pull from my savings account when necessary. Come on, this is not something only extended to the Bill Gates of the world. B of A gave me overdraft protection from a small line of credit when I first opened my account with them 21 years ago when I was still an underpaid field tech. Don't these people think of stuff like this?
