Timor-Leste Rejects Climate Hysteria, Embraces Development

https://pjmedia.com/vijay-jayaraj/2025/12/08/timor-leste-rejects-climate-hysteria-embraces-development-n4946815

The island nation of Timor-Leste, located north of Australia at the eastern extreme of the Indian Ocean, is blessed with stunning beaches along a rugged mountainous terrain.  It is famous for producing some of the world's finest organic coffee, grown in high-altitude, shaded environments, producing a smooth, low-acid brew with notes of chocolate, cocoa, and spice.

Just a little smaller than Texas in land area, the country of 1.3 million people is at a pivotal moment, ready to challenge a popular – if perhaps fading – narrative that cripples some developing economies – the unfounded fear of man-made climate catastrophe.

For years, alarmists have singled out low-lying island nations as poster children for the looming disaster of being swallowed by a warming globe’s rising seas. The “solution” – presented as a moral imperative – was to abandon the use of fossil fuels, whose emissions of carbon dioxide supposedly were to blame for melting glaciers and drowning coastlines.

However, Timor-Leste has chosen a radically different, and far more honest, path: unapologetic economic growth fueled by its natural resources, including abundant fossil fuel reserves.

Choosing to develop what they have instead of guilt-tripping and arm-twisting $$$$ out of developed countries? How un-third-worldly!

The more common name for Timor-Leste is East Timor. Historically, about half of the island of Timor was a Dutch colony, and about half was a Portuguese colony. During WW2, when Japan conquered the Dutch East Indies they left the Portuguese colony more or less alone. That colonial division eventually led to East Timor breaking off from Indonesia.

Millions of children and teens lose access to accounts as Australia’s world-first social media ban begins

Quote
Australia has enacted a world-first ban on social media for users aged under 16, causing millions of children and teenagers to lose access to their accounts.

Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, YouTube, Snapchat, Reddit, Kick, Twitch and TikTok are expected to have taken steps from Wednesday to remove accounts held by users under 16 years of age in Australia, and prevent those teens from registering new accounts.

Platforms that do not comply risk fines of up to $49.5m.

There have been some teething problems with the ban’s implementation. Guardian Australia has received several reports of those under 16 passing the facial age assurance tests, but the government has flagged it is not expecting the ban will be perfect from day one.

Might be threadworthy, probably will be in 6-12 months to see how it worked (or didn't).

Interesting, " facial age assurance tests". I wonder what that might be?

Probably exactly what you think it is. Facial recognition software and government digital ID as the baseline for comparison is my guess.

Yup.  I believe the game service Steam or some other online service tried it a little bit back in the UK, and kids were beating it with screenshots of game characters.

A test that baby-face 30YO Elvis Presley might fail.

As Sea Drones Force Russia to Retreat, Ukraine Examines Ways to Launch More Complex Attacks

https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/ukraine-russia-war-sea-drones-black-sea/2025/12/07/id/1237412/

Quote
The commander of sea-drone operations for Ukraine’s military intelligence agency says more complex strikes against Russian forces are expected next year, after Kyiv’s uncrewed fleet succeeded in curbing the movements of Russia’s once-dominant Black Sea navy.

In an interview with The Associated Press, the head of the specialized maritime drone unit, Group 13, said Ukraine’s attacks have forced Russia to adapt, limiting opportunities for major Black Sea strikes seen earlier in the war.
...
Last month, Ukrainian officials said sea-attack drones were used in strikes against vessels in Russia’s sanctions-evading “shadow fleet” of oil tankers. The commander declined to comment on those operations.

The officer said Russian naval vessels “barely operate,” often venturing only up to 25 miles (40 kilometers) from port to fire missiles before retreating. “They constantly hide. And in a way, that’s also a result of our unit — because you can imagine the cost of maintaining a fleet that cannot operate at sea.”
...
At a recent demonstration, operators showed a V7 fitted with modified U.S.-made Sidewinder air-to-air missiles. In May, the intelligence agency said a Magura drone shot down a Russian fighter jet — a development the commander called a “breakthrough” in maritime warfare.

Recently, at least one Russia missile ship launched its attack from within the Novorossiysk naval base instead of going out into the Black Sea. Also, Ukraine has driven all but patrol boats out of Crimea (and sank or mission-killed some). The Russian patrol boats are there to try to prevent attacks by sea drones (very moderately successfully at most).

Oregon Nurse Who Cheered On Shiri Bibas's Death Faces No Punishment; Renewed RN License Last Month

https://toniairaksinen.substack.com/p/oregon-nurse-who-cheered-on-shiri

Quote
The nursing ethics board that oversees the licensure of Oregon nurses has decided to take no action against the infamous nurse Camesha Hart, of Beaverton Oregon, who sent messages to Jews calling them “vermin” and “dogs” and saying she doesn’t treat animals.

In fact, they allowed her to renew her RN license for another two years, we found out last week.

Camesha Lynn Hart — a nurse of 22 years in Beaverton Oregon — found herself in an imbroglio of antisemitic proportions when she popped off a number of anti-Jew comments earlier this year in February and March 2025 on her Instagram page.

Camesha Hart wished that Jewish people “Meet their ancestors soon.” Meanwhile in response to a Jewish woman, Hart wrote “I would refuse to treat you. I don’t take care of animals. Dogs. Rats. Vermin of any kind.”

“I would refuse to treat you. I’m not a vet. I don’t treat dogs.”

Apparently this female did lose her job, due to the negative reactions her employer received, but there are Prog circles in which her antisemitism would be very welcome.

This story is over a week old, but too delicious not to share:

Holiday classic ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’ has ‘dangerous’ capitalist message: professor

The classic Thanksgiving film “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” contains a “dangerous” pro-capitalist message, a State University of New York professor said Monday on a “radical” left podcast.

SUNY Purchase College Professor Mtume Gant analyzed the film on the podcast “Millennials are Killing Capitalism” with host Jared Ware.

They discussed their belief that the comedy normalizes classism through the main characters’ disastrous travel experiences as they attempt to go home for the holiday.

The podcast, which frequently features leftist academics, describes itself as a “platform for communists, anti-imperialists, Black Liberation movements, ancoms, left libertarians, LBGTQ activists, feminists, immigration activists, and abolitionists to discuss radical politics, radical organizing and share their visions for a better world.”

Gant criticized the main character, a grumpy, uptight upper middle class marketing executive played by Steve Martin, and his family-focused goal of trying to get home for Thanksgiving.

He said the film uses family as an excuse for Martin’s and other capitalist bourgeois’s poor treatment of the working class, including the lower class main character played by John Candy.

“If your executive boss is a little bit of an a–hole, just know that he can’t see his family that much. So, you shouldn’t be that pissed that he’s exploiting you, possibly harassing you in various ways … It’s just the stress of not seeing his family,” Gant said.

He also attacked the idea of family and home being portrayed as “wholesome.”

“You get this idea that because [the main character is] not at home that kind of wholesome side of him gets destroyed by modernity,” not by his “really terrible” capitalist ideology, he said.

At another point in the podcast, the professor pointed out the contrast between how the two main characters are portrayed, despite having similar jobs. One is an upper level marketing executive who is clean, organized, and physically fit, while the other is a lower class salesman who is sloppy, “unscrupulous,” and overweight.

The director is “constantly reinforcing these really terrible tropes that have become so normalized in our society around class,” Gant said.

Gant said the film’s focus on work travel also is part of a larger capitalist and imperialist agenda that puts the burden on the worker for the benefit of the bourgeois.

So this professor believes he has identified the unsavory motivations of the characters. IT'S A MOVIE YOU IDIOT!!!
The movie suggests families coming together at Christmas is a good thing. How dare they?! What would the good professor suggest a family should do instead? I know. Get out there and protest the normalization of classism. IT'S A MOVIE YOU IDIOT!!!

The listed groups all have their "visions" I'm reasonably sure none of them, if applied to reality, would look anything like what they envision. I'm also reasonably sure if any one of the above group could magically make their vision real, the remaining groups would be screaming bloody murder inside a year.
Unlike Carson or Letterman  who had bands, this podcast needs a drum circle.
