a drug cost question

Some of you guys maybe in the know on this and can save me some Googling.

Back in the run-up to the election, almost every time that SloJo mumbled or the surrogates rambled or the Kacklin’ KnobGobbler tossed a word salad, one of the ingredients was bragging about getting the price of insulin down. I heard it so often, and considering how often they lie, I decided to do some research on it. The reason that I’m asking about it now is because back then I only skimmed through what I read. I didn’t spend a lot of time on it.

What I’m remembering and what I’m wondering if I’m correct about is that the DemonRats did NOT get the price of insulin down to $35 (or whatever it is). What they got down was what the person on Medicare (or caid) has to pay out of pocket. The drug company still gets the same amount, but we (the taxpayers) pay the amount beyond the $35. Is that correct or close to correct?

Also, it’s my understanding that the GOP put forth a bill, which was shot down by the DemonRats, that would require the drug companies to charge the people here in the US the same low insulin prices that they were charging elsewhere on the planet which would result in all American citizens paying less than the $35 AND would not cost the rest of tax payers money. Is that also correct or close to it?

I believe the cost was only for people on Medicare and Medicaid. I don’t think it applied to anyone else.

Yeah, that's what I'm remembering. That the people on Medi(whatever) only has to pay the $35 and everyone else still pays whatever the price is; however, for the ones getting the Medi(whatever) $35 price, the company still got the full amount because the government (aka we taxpayers) paid the remainder of the fee. Of course, as I said, I didn't read it closely so I could be wrong, but screwing the American people and claiming that they are helping sounds like a Dem move.
