Why no parade permit?

Why no parade permit?

On January 6th, just before Congress was to meet to certify the electoral votes from the different states, Donald Trump held a rally at the Ellipse, about two miles from the Capitol.

Why didn't he get a permit to march to the Capitol on that day? After all, he told his people that they were going "to march down to the Capitol" and that he "was going to be there with them".

But he knew they did not have a legal permit to march to the Capitol. It would probably have been denied, because it was during a very important function that was happening at the Capitol.

But why bother with something so trivial as a "parade permit" when there are bigger fish to fry?

Just another small detail that is never discussed in the attempt to overthrow our elected government.

One doesn't normally fixate on a point as weak as this when one has strong arguments already.

Because Trump held his rally and did not march to the Capitol? (even some DU-folk should point out that flaw in kt's Gotcha-Trump post) And after the rally he returned to the White House?

For those of you who followed what happened on 1/6 closer than I have, a question. Did Trump's rally even end before substantial crowds had gathered near the Capitol? I suspect stuff started happening at the Capitol before Trump's rally ended, but I don't want to make a stupid DU-style false claim. (Like kt did)

From this fact-twisting NewSpeak timeline article, https://www.newsweek.com/jan-6-capitol-riot-timeline-trumps-first-tweet-speech-bidens-certification-1665436 :

Quote
10:58 a.m.: Members of the Proud Boys are seen heading toward the Capitol. A member tells the BBC: "We're taking our country back."

11:00 p.m. (sic, obvious typo; 11:00 am? 12:00 pm? this BBC article, https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-56004916 , suggests the latter): Trump starts speaking to attendees of the "Save America Rally" at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C.
...
12:29 p.m.: About halfway through his speech, Trump says (quoted as a chronological time marker)
...
12:53 p.m.: The crowd outside the Capitol grows and confrontations with police begin.
...
1:13 p.m.: Trump finishes speaking.

W'pedia's similarly tendentious article, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_the_January_6_United_States_Capitol_attack , gives more details about the happenings at the Capitol during Trump's speech. Unlike the article above and a couple more MSM "timelines", W'pedia give this time for Trump's departure from his rally:

Quote
1:17 p.m.: Trump's motorcade leaves the Ellipse. The Secret Service does not allow Trump to go to the Capitol and drives him back to the White House against his wishes. Trump behaved angrily, according to multiple witnesses who testified for the House committee.

1:19 p.m.: Trump's motorcade arrives at the White House.

The claim I highlighted has been debunked as absurdly false, but W'pedia writers prefer that absurdity to reality. OTOH, unlike the 3 MSM timelines, W'pedia did quote the "P"-word from Trump's speech, "peacefully".

One thing all the timelines make abundantly clear, contrary to kt's ASSumption: hundreds of Trump supporters were already at the Capitol before Trump began his rally; Trump spoke well over an hour; riotous stuff was happening during Trump's speech; Trump went straight from his rally to the White House. Trump did not get a parade permit to march to the Capitol because he did not go near the Capitol and Trump did not organize the actions of those who did.

I could point out that no DU called out kt's errors in fact and anachronism, but it would hardly be fair, since there are, at this point, just 2 Replies, and both are pretty much off-topic. :rotf:

HI5! You beat me to that.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

kt holds a fatuous fantasy that he is way smarter than the average American.

It completes a matched set with all the rest of his delusions of adequacy.  :loser:

According to your side it was an insurrection, I don’t think they give permits for that just like blm didn’t have permits to riot and loot.
