8. No...we are not losing right now. And MSNBC wants a self-fulfilling predicition which is why

I no longer watch. We need to get out all of our voters and we win. This election is the most important election in my life really.

30. I mean of course we are losing "right now"

every poll makes it pretty clear we aren't winning "right now."

Now, what happens in the months to come, I can't predict the future.

The loss of Roe could inspire a lot of our voters to turn out. (certainly possible)

Inflation could quickly go back down. (fairly unlikely)

Some other black swan event could happen. (who knows?)

But both historically and based on the current environment, yeah, we are losing.

Pretending we aren't isn't going to lead to a reversal of that situation.

Hard work, identifying what our problems are and trying to fix them can.

10. Specifically why do you think so?

Did someone on tv tell you so?

Quote
Star Member Maraya1969 (19,376 posts)

15. It's only a reasonable prediction is every buys into it. Which is what I think they want.

If we Get out the Vote we should win.

Quote
Star Member Hoyt (53,732 posts)

5. Yeah, let's just pretend we are going to keep House and increase Senate lead by 10 seats.

That'll get out the vote.

40. Well....if they want to continue to operate as a free media they may want to start cheerleading. That is if reporting truth and facts are at all important to them.

holy shit...

7. Stupid media.

"Historically the party in power loses seats in the midterms" is what I still hear all the time even though that dates back to the olden days when the GQP was still a somewhat legitimate political party with a platform and everything and not just a power-grabbing cult.

36. When do you think the repubs first stopped being a legit political party with a platform and not a power grabbing cult? When were these "olden" days to which you refer?

Because in 2020, despite losing the White House, the repubs picked up 14 House seats. And while just as then, I have no doubt Trump couldn't get elected, the electorate seems perfectly willing to distinguish between him and their local house member's candidacy and its silly to pretend that the predictions being made now are baseless.

28. Not for me, I don't see it.

U.S. economy doing very well, U.S. and allies stronger than ever (NATO, U.N.,) covid treatments successful, among a few.

37. Most voters don't think the economy is doing "very well."

Statistics only get one so far. Voter perception is what matters.

Consumer confidence is lower now than it was at the end of 2021. Gas prices are a huge issue. Inflation is a huge issue. And while the stock market isn't a good indicator of the economy (although folks like to cite it when its going up), the reality is that over the past few months, it has dropped over 1600 points from its peak in early January (and has been down as much as 4000 points). That gets reflected in 401K statements.

Yes there is a lot of good economic news, and several million people have jobs and/or higher wages than they did before. But all those people -- and many more -- are finding that their cost of living is also significantly higher. That leads people to have a favorable few of the economy.

31. I was reading the same BS on washington post today or yesterday. I can't for the life of me figure out why these outlets are turning on us like this. It's a critical time and we don't need resistance like this.

33. These outlets aren't against us...and they're not for us

They're reporting political news, which seriously does show a likelihood of losing the House (and possibly the Senate) in November, absent some significant change in political dynamics.

MSM is the GOP lapdogs.

43. NPR has been doing it for months

I know that one or more of NPR’s tireless defenders will swoop in to tell me that I didn’t hear what I heard, but I first noticed it in the early months of 2022.

They’d use phrases like “With Democrats all but certain to lose their congressional majority” or “The GOP is poised to retake the House and possibly the Senate,” and on and on.

These statements appear on multiple NPR programs, not just the flagship news hours. And never once have I heard a commentator rebut or rein in the speaker’s prophecy of Democratic Doom.

Instead, they say things like “where did Democrats go wrong?” or “Why do Democrats have such difficulty holding onto power?”

I don’t have a particular citation, but if you tune into NPR at random on any given day, there’s a fair chance that you’ll hear similar comments for yourself.

47. You beat me to it!

I despise NPR, but husband is a huge fan and has it playing the background constantly.

They are constantly talking about the huge losses Dems are going to have.

Are we pretending it isn't?

45. It appears so. This isn't my first election - I sensed with pretty good certainty by late April in

past elections which party was going to win the House. By late April of the following years: 1994 - was dead certain we were in deep trouble; 2006 - was confident the House was ours barring a major foul-up; 2008 - was confident that we were going to expand our majorities; 2010 - was dead certain we were in deep trouble; 2014 - knew it was going to suck; 2018 - was confident the House was ours barring a major foul-up. This year I basically feel like I did in 2014 - it's not going to be a full-out disaster like 1994 or 2010, but it's probably going to suck.

48. We even had a Democrat resign from Congress

We're having a special election in a few weeks to replace him with a Republican

He was gonna wait until November, but decided to let his seat go the GOP

Filemon Vela up and quit

We had a local Dem switch parties to the GOP
We had a state senator throw in the towel after her primary

Now the senate seat will be an automatic GOP pick up...

Campaigns aren't very perky at the moment.
I wish I could be optimistic, but we barely won the house and now Filemon decided to give it away!

49. Because that is what polling says will happen, do you want them to lie like foxnews?

Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

Republicans winning simply means the leftward slide into oblivion is slightly slowed. That doesn't make it the most important election of a lifetime. The hysterics are a bit tedious
