The airlines have cut back flights quite dramatically. How about we fly some of them to New Orleans and Houston and Biloxi and start an actual airlift?

And gets slapped back into the bathroom in the basement.

1. Who will fly them, fuel them, schedule them and control them?
Good thought but totally undoable. Sorry.

5. That's a stupid question ..... the same pilots who always flew them ......
.... the ones that were laid off.

"Totally undoable?"

Yeah .... keep thinking small. That's how we got where we are ... small, narrow minded thinkers.

7. What ones laid off? How many of them are there, where are they,
how will you get them to where the planes are (assuming you can figure out which ones are qualified to fly which) and are there millions of unemployed fuel line-boys we can press into instant service (this will all need to be done in about 60 hours...are you available to do all this?) Don't take my word for it, ask some of the old timer pilots and controllers here. Good grief.

200overcast talks facts and sense.....he won`t be around for long. :-)

TiT can fly'em all, he has the training I'm sure. .....and he should take a few DUmmies along to assist him.

And fly them where and do what with them once you land?  So many questions, so little intelligence to answer them.

To DUmmies life is like a TV show or movie where anything is possible in the span of an hour.

They are devoid of any intellect or reality.

Pilots have to be trianed on the aircraft they are flying and the aircraft have to be maintained. You can;t just jump into it like 99% of this country does with their cars and trucks. Alot of those planes are parked in the desert in storage. Lots of those laid off pilots went to other jobs and are not about to go through the hoops just to make some ****in tard on DU happy.

26. Maybe we could just raise the Titanic and sail it up the Mississippi.

Think how many people we could save that way!

It's a little less feasible than your suggestion but as long as we're dealing with rhetorical scenarios...

HaHa.

They have changed the subject to "why isn`t the National Guard doing this....it is because they are in Iraq".

Could someone more educated then me explain to any lurkers or visitors the exact conditions and term the National Guard can be deployed for domestic service.

The Little Goons need/have to believe every man woman and child in the National Guard is in Iraq.  Nothing, with the exception of someone calling DemocratUnderground.com something reasonable, could be further from the truth.

It is almost as funny as their desire to believe airline pilots are now on Skid Row begging for spare change.

Louisiana National Guard Gears Up for Gustav

American Forces Press Service

BATON ROUGE, La., Aug. 29, 2008 – As Tropical Storm Gustav gains strength and approaches the Gulf Coast, about 3,000 Louisiana citizen-soldiers and -airmen have been activated in support of emergency operations and are prepared to support civil missions and assist with various needs and emergencies expected to arise across the state.

"Our soldiers and airmen are staged and set to deploy to our coastal parishes without hesitation,” Army Maj. Gen. Bennett Landreneau, adjutant general for the Louisiana National Guard, said. “Engineer and communications teams are reporting to coastal parishes and are set to assist our citizens and local parish emergency responders. Our security forces are deploying to ensure safety and security of homes and personnel. We are confident in our plans and ability to execute those plans on a moment’s notice.”

Louisiana Guard search-and-rescue assets are preparing for deployment to potential impact areas. Soldiers and airmen also are pre-positioning to support shelter security missions across the state, and teams are ready to support “contraflow” highway lane-reversal missions in coordination with the Louisiana State Police.

Louisiana National Guard security forces are preparing for deployment to potential impact areas, including deployment to New Orleans in support of the city’s evacuation plan. The Guard is requesting additional helicopter assets with Emergency Management Assistance Compact states in preparation for potential search-and-rescue missions.

Soldiers of the Lake Charles-based 3rd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment, 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, began the initial alert preparations for the possible landfall of Hurricane Gustav. The battalion, which consists of soldiers from all over southwestern Louisiana, has prepared vehicles and equipment for the deployment to New Orleans or any other area that may be affected.

“We’re ready to go wherever we need to,” said Lake Charles native Army 1st Sgt. Gary Burchfield of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3-156th Infantry Battalion.

The Govenor of the state has to decide when and where to activate the Guard. Once done they report to their units and get orders . It can take as little as a few days to get it done. When we had the flooding back in 1993 here in Iowa the Gov. Had already activated the Guard when my unit called me and asked if I wanted to go fill sandbags to stop the flooding in Hamburg Iowa. They asked for volunteers as the request for the number of troops was lower then the actual number assigned to the unit.

Exactly.  Unless federalized the NG reports directly to the Governor.
