Exactly. I'll be wearing my red Headsweats hat at that event next month. I'm sure 2/3-3/4 of folks there are in the Lib-Prog spectrum, but I don't think the hat will get a single double-take. Of course, many are acquaintances/friends, so I'll probably get a couple of, "You're still alive?" double-takes.
There haven't been live in-venue running events in the SF Bay Area since late February or early March 2020. The first I know of, sort of in the Bay Area, was last weekend in Santa Cruz. Many other states and CA counties have been less stupid.
Good for you! It is a good thing to actually go out and mingle with real people, regardless of their political ideology. While you are a touch older than myself and perhaps feel the need to take more precautions, I'm not quite at that level of worrying about health quite yet having just hit the 51 mark on the odometer.
Now, I definitely micro and macro aggressed last night with those Brandeis University banned phrases last night. When I do my opening spiel, most regulars tune the instructions out because they know them by heart. But I'll sprinkle in a word or several to make people chuckle. A few nuggets that I tossed out (whether people paid attention, I have no idea):

As a rule of thumb, I don't grade on spelling mistakes as long as I get the gist of what you wrote down as an answer.
When a team won a particular round and the overall prize, several times I said that they "killed it" in that on Round 3.
And a couple of groups who hadn't been there in a while, I used the triggering phrase "hey, long time no see!".
