My husband was at Costco today. A Japanese American family was behind

him. They had a broom in their cart that accidentally fell forward and hit him in the back. He said they looked horrified. My dear hubby made one of his dumb jokes which made the family laugh, reassuring everyone.

I feel so bad that a situation that would normally have been seen as an innocent accident with apologies has turned into a fearful situation for this family.

My hubby and I have had both vaccines and are now able to cautiously venture out to Costco, etc.

1. Pardon invoking a stereotype - one that has basis in reality - but the Asian family's reaction was very Asian. Would that some Westerners learned a bit of that respect for others.

2. Being mildly agoraphobic, Costco is not among my favorite places in the world. However, I've been to Costco several times in the past year, because I know that, net of precautions and common sense, the risk was less than extremely low. When I got the 'vid I hadn't been to a Costco in months.

I've tried this past year to walk a sensical path between paralyzing (= DU-grade) fear and being continuously stupid.

Well, bless your heart.

Exactly. I see that sort of culturally-ingrained courtesy 5 days a week, pretty much, among my coworkers. Maybe AnotherMother4Peace (or hubby) doesn't see it often enough to recognize it for what it is.

Given their track record, I wonder how the primitive knew the family was of Japanese derivation.

Over the years, there's been plenty of primitive comments on one thread or another where the primitives mixed up the Japanese with Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Laotian, Cambodian, and so help me, Filipinos, which betrays that the primitives can't tell the differences in the nationalities of the Far East.

As far as the primitives seem to know, everybody's white, yellow, brown, or black, with no distinctions within those colors.

...

I wondered about that too, but it is possible that the hubby chatted with the couple.

The poor guy probably noticed the Biden shirt her husband was wearing and thought he would react in an insanely violent manner like most Democrats.

Given how busy a normal Costco is - shoppers/carts bumping each other, squeezing by each other, crowding each other, crossing in front of each other, etc., if that Japanese (or ??) couple really feared whites reacting unpleasantly to their presence there's no way they'd risk shopping at Costco.

that brings up something I hadn't thought of until I saw your post.  The DUmmy says that the Japanese couple was behind them.  I had assumed that meant behind in the checkout line, but all Costcos have markings on the floor directing you to keep a proper social distance from the person in front of you while in line, so if that was the case, either the Japanese family was disregarding the floor markings or the broom handle must have been about 10 feet long in order to fall forward and hit the DUmmy.

and why did the DUmmy feel it necessary to add

No kidding. I laughed when I read that last part.  I guess they've been following the role of their great leader, Hidin' Biden, for the last year.

At least this part seems believable; democrats and anti-humor, dad jokes, and the like go hand in hand.

Do you know what is the difference between a regular joke and a dad joke?
