I think Republicans are going to get wiped out this November.
I am usually a pessimist of major proportions regarding elections.

And maybe this is just a false sense of optimism brought about by low blood sugar or getting adequate sleep (for once).

But I awoke today with a feeling that the mood of the country has turned so vociferously against everything Republican that they are going to be wiped out this fall.

That goes for president, Senate, and the House.
All will flip Blue and with a majority in the Senate that is filibuster proof.
State governorships will flip.
State houses will flip.
Mayoral races will flip.

I think the R after a name is as toxic as the water in Flint and the air coming out of Agolf Twitler's pie hole.

They are going to be decimated from sea to shining sea.

Call, canvas, donate, do what you can to make this happen!

YES WE CAN.

2. In more ways than one.

Their most fervent supporters are flouting the stay-at-home advisories.

If they get COVID-19 en masse, expect a good 20% of them to die. Those are election-losing margins...

They are hoping people get sick and die.   :censored:

3. I hope so, but that is only if the vote is held fairly

Republicans don't tend to like to play that way, and they still control was too many state legislatures for us to get complacent.

10. Part of my feeling comes from what happened in Wisconsin.

The Rs did everything they could to screw the voters and tilt the field for the conservatives, especially the judge.

They only had 5 polling places where they usually have 180.

They made people vote in th middle of a pandemic.

And still they came.

The vote was overwhelming

And I think regardless of their dirty tricks, voter suppression, purges voter rolls, ID laws, and myriad other ways they try to **** with the vote, it will still be so overwhelming they will be all but wiped off the map.

A democratic primary election is run by who, exactly?

Quote
Star Member DFW (37,033 posts)

19. That will have to be VERY overwhelming

It certainly CAN happen. Look at 2008. But back then, Rove and Cheney knew that there was no way any Republican was going to win the White House short of military intervention on their part, so they backed down, and instead put Citizens United into start position, which they had already started with over 5 years before it was actually upheld by the Roberts Court. This time, they have their Roberts Court, but will probably lose it if the Democrats hold the White House for 12 years. If they let Trump get sent to the political version of the bottom of the Mariana Trench, it's only because they plan to let it be a temporary four year setback.

The key to true victory, besides the obvious Biden win over Trump, will be the victory of Amy McGrath over Moscow Mitch McTurtle in Kentucky. They would rather detonate a hydrogen bomb over Louisville than let THAT happen, and we have to make sure it happens anyway.

...I will give you an example....best example of how wrong this is.....1972 McGovern

The current "Republican Party" has a whole lot of money..." to come back" Never underestimate the power of money in politics. And also, that money can buy politicians who seem....very moderate and honest compared to Trump..& in opposition to Trump..

..It surely seemed that the Republicans Party was ........"dead after FDR,,and Harry Truman".....seemed that way...What party was Dwight D Eisenhower?.............and if the Republican Party is beaten to a pulp in November's election..(if that happens) then it will regroup in a couple of years and fight again with unlimited money in 2024. Never underestimate your opponent. Never.

What is known is that the GOP will warp the vote in their favor.

I am in the camp that questions whether a Fall 2020 election even takes place.

Our political problems run deep, far more than Trump.

Especially the presidential election, but others as well. Trump has already accused Democrats of stealing the 2018 midterm elections.
This could be a dangerous time for our democracy since Republicans have totally bent the knee to Trump and their future is locked to his.

It is now in open alliance with white nationalists and far rw radicals whose intention is to blow everything up (metaphorically speaking). The mainstream repubs are quite ok with the chaos and conflict perpertrated by the cult leader.... after all their openly stated intention for decades now has been to "shrink govt until its small enough it can be drowned in a bathtub" and replace it with .... what..... soviet style oligarchy? Feudalism? They never say, but its some form of the rich get even more obscenely rich, and the poor get stomped into the ground. The middle class disappears into nothingness.

In spite of.... no, because of.... the cult leader's shenanigans, they have been making great progress towrds that goal.

The 30% of america who are cultists have been fed ever more twisted alt-reality propaganda, and are ever more entrenched in their alt beliefs. Last night on Coast to Coast - now a pathetic shadow of what it used to be - some lady was spinning some bizarre tale about how it was Dr. Fauci was involved in the Chinese Lab in wuhan creating these viruses

Anyway all Im saying is.... hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

... but counting the Wisconsin results this week combined with the special elections last year in Georgia, Louisiana, Kentucky and Virginia, all States won by Trump but the votes were blue Dems. Yes there is a trend going on here but a trend doesn’t guarantee anything for November and don’t allow anyone to become complacent.
Republicans still control 38 States* and are working diligently to prevent absentee voting are are reducing polling locations, and there is a virus on the loose ....in short, it is a dead heat

recent elections in Kentucky and Virginia last year showed Democrats are still engaged and angry. And that was before impeachment, a deadly pandemic and an economic crisis that will persist beyond the November election.

Trump has absolutely nothing to run on, he has been a complete failure, and all but his most diehard followers realize it. Republicans have lashed themselves to the mast of Trump's sinking presidency, they too will pay the price. As always, turnout will be key to winning big.

Only a close defeat can be called a "stolen" election; or one totally the other way; 70-30%. No matter how much we'd like to see it, THOSE numbers wont be seen

The Republicans have been blatantly abusing our governmental system for years now and this has to be prevented in the future.

If nothing is done they have shown they will do it over and over because holding power is more important to them than governing the country.

Yes, if the Dems come back into total power they will do anything to make sure they are never removed again...

The "90% of the vote" of course is just hyperbole.

But anyway, surely birdie knows this has already happened; history's already repeated itself.

In 1980, the incumbent Jimmy Carter was bested by the challenger Ronald Reagan by the same landslide margin FDR had won in 1932.

And then in 1984, Reagan was re-elected by the same landslide margins FDR had won in 1936--excepting that FDR carried all but 2 states, while Reagan carried all but 1.

Strange, the things primitives don't remember.

Richard Nixon also won by a large margin in 72. Probably by more than Obama won reelection as a percentage of the number of votes.

Obama's margins matched the razor-thin 1968 Nixon margin much much more than the massive landslide 1972 Nixon margin.

As difficult as it is to believe, Nixon during his first term was more popular than Obama during either term.

President Richard Nixon won by a much larger margin in 1972 than President Barack Obama did in 2012. The largest margin is President Warren G. Harding in 1920.

Thank goodness the DUmbasses are predicting this.

It is going to be an absolute wipeout of all democrats like 2010 times 10 and PRESIDENT TRUMP winning 42 states.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

There are a few of these loons at DU Jr. They cannot say why other than Orange Man Bad. They literally think the nation thinks just like they do.

~~that said, I think there is going to be a massive fraud effort on the part of the rats. But with the rank and file either staying home or voting for Trump...the fraud will not be enough.

Governor's Whitmore and Northam alone will raise GOP voting rates by at LEAST 10% up and down both the state and federal tickets in MI and VA.

My take:

I have no clue what is going to happen come November... and I suspect most people don't either.  It's a long ways off.

Having said that I will point out that whatever DU predicts turns out to be incorrect 95 percent of the time.  I have no hard data to support this, just my observations over the years so take it with a grain of salt.

An offshore wagering site, which obviously changes depending on "action":

Currently:
2020 US Presidential Election Winner
Donald Trump -125
Joe Biden +125
Andrew Cuomo +3300
Hillary Clinton +5000
Mike Pence +5000
Nikki Haley +15000
Michelle Obama +20000

For example, to win $100 on President Donald J. Trump, one needs to wager $125.

As of now, Trump is the slight favorite.
