Omaha Steve gets a new boss

Oh my.

A Reader's Digest version of the history of Omaha Steve's message board; "jackpine radicals" was founded by a couple of chicks three, four, years ago to support the hoary old white-haired sourassed sourpuss crank from Vermont, but they could never get it going until a guy, Manny came on board to run things.  This isn't to say women can't run internet message boards; it's only to say that primitive women don't do so well.

What's going to happen to JPR now?

Jackpine Radicals is now under new ownership. Mary and Manny have decided to step down. They are not leaving JPR, but have decided to take a less active role. We are grateful they built JPR to what it is today.

Sofarfromheaven, Landofenchantment and I will now have the pleasure of guiding JPR to the future. As always, it’s members like you who are also a guiding force for JPR. Let’s continue to work together to get progressives elected.

What’s going to happen to JPR now?

In the next couple of weeks, JPR will be moving to the Vbulletin platform. This new iteration will be called JPR 3.0.

As some members can testify, the current software is challenging. Between not being able to post, receiving posting errors, etc… your “hamster overlords” have decided to start fresh. While the new site is being built, we urge you to save any data (posts, pictures, videos, etc.) you would like to take with you to our new site. JPR 2.0 will be archived and new posts will be disabled.

In addition to JPR 3.0, we’re bringing more moderators on board. Some have already started, while others will join later. An announcement will be made on the new site as to who they are. This is an exciting time for JPR. We look forward to what the future holds.

Lots of comments, but none from Omaha Steve, who's probably still recovering from the harsh exertions of having to post something in his own forum a couple of days ago.

Provided they stay up to date on security updates, that's a good move. vBulletin isn't free, but it's an investment DU should have made a decade and more ago.

What I can't understand is freerepublic, with their Rube Goldberg set-up that breaks down much of the time.

I suspect Jim Robinson does it simply so his kid has a job working for him, rather than working out in the real world.

He should fire his kid, compelling him to get a real job, and get whatever it is we use here, which appears to require (from what I can see) minimal or no maintenance.

It kind of tells you how little DU and FR are worth that their Dinosaurian RYO forum SW hasn't been hacked to Valhalla, long ago and multiple times. That happened to CapitolHillBlue Reader Rant back in 1998 and Doug Thompson switched to the more modern and secure Ultimate Bulletin Board.

Update on JPR 3.0

I have some bad news (or good news from a different point of view) …

During the process of testing, @sofarfromheaven, @landofenchantment, and I discovered Vbulletin no longer offers a Threaded Mode view or Indented Replies. We have decided Vbulletin is not the platform for us.

"Vbulletin no longer offers a Threaded Mode view or Indented Replies."

Could one of you techies put this in English. Sounds like you can't view designated threads and replies no longer indent over so you can view them in a staircase type way.

.

Because third world peasant labor is a good thing.

  • Yes, really. Liberals DO disgust me.

Right. The staircase view is gone and everything is straight-line. Difficult to tell where something begins and others leave off.
Liberals disgust me. (Now I don't have to remember to put it on each post).

Because only the left goes searching for that which is not there in a desperate attempt to be offended about something.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

In other words, it'll look like a FR thread... sorta. Not chaining of the posts and replies.
So yea, like FR comments

My two word guess would be: Write off.

Jimbo and Jr. make a pretty fair living off fleecing the flock but ya still gotta pay da man.  :whistling:
