Is what Trump said true?

In news clips of his rally in West Virginia, Trump said in 2016 Democrats suffered the biggest defeat in American history.

Weren't there Presidential elections where the winner got every state but one?

How do you define, "Biggest defeat"? By pure numbers? By expectations being demolished? By whatever one would call Lincoln's victory? "Biggest defeat" could be literal or metaphoric. Not that facts matter on DU.

The DUmmie is nitpicking.  Sure, you can look back at McGovern's loss and say it was much worse, which in the raw sense of how many states went which way is true.  However, nobody actually expected McGovern to win, so in the sense of being one of the most colossal upsets in US political history, Trump's statement is not unreasonable.

Yep.  And we did it without Super-Delegates.

I think a lot of what's at the core of The President's thinking is the amount of money the Dems outspent him by.  It was probably the biggest waste of campaign-dollars in US-history.

When adjusted for liberal butthurt, it was the worst defeat in the history of the universe.

Which brings me to BFDU's LawUpon each successive loss, the volume of self-righteous anguish and butthurt (per moonbat*) will double every election year since 2000. BFDU's Law predicts that this trend will continue into the foreseeable future.

     * - by unit, not by volume. Measuring liberal butthurt by volume is difficult to control, as liberals tend to increase their volume as their butthurt increases, causing butthurt to appear constant.

:hi5:

That's another reasonable way of interpreting Trump's statement of which DU-folk would not dare think. I would expect the context of Trump's remark would explain his meaning - the MSM has been dishonest about context with Trump comments for the better part of 2 years* - but his victory was certainly the biggest D loss in terms of expectations and $$ spent.

* That MSM dishonesty was a big element in reconciling me to the idea of voting Trump.

based on the monumental amount of butthurt displayed by not only the DUmmies, but basically all of the left since November 8, I would say it ranks up there an the top 2 biggest defeats in American history.

 Nixon/McGovern  1972 is actually #2.  520/18 EC votes respectively,

 Reagan/Mondale 1984 is the # 1 ass-kicking.  525/13.   I imagine FDR had a couple good runs.

FDR' s 1936 election  was 523 to 8.  Alf Landon was the loser.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”
