More Than 50 House Dems Urge Mattis to Reject Transgender Military BanMore than 50 House Democrats sent a letter on Friday to Defense Secretary James Mattis and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford
urging the military not to comply with President Donald Trump's proposed ban on transgender people in the armed forces.
"As members of Congress with an abiding interest in our nation's military and its policies towards the LGBTQ community, we write to not only express our strong opposition to President Trump's recent tweets seeking to ban transgender individuals from the military, but
to remind you not to comply with any unconstitutional directive which may ultimately be issued," the letter reads.
The letter was responding to a Trump tweet that transgender individuals will not be allowed to serve in "any capacity in the U.S. military."

Au contraire, commandant! Ye be threatening mutinyMilitary.com reports that during a speech earlier this week at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Admiral Paul Zukunft stated
he has no intention of leaving the 13 members of the Coast Guard who identify themselves as transgender out in the cold.
"I told [an officer who is transgender] 'I will not turn my back. We have made an investment in you, and you have made an investment in the Coast Guard, and I will not break faith,'" Zukunft stated.
The commandant also pointed out that
the Coast Guard is the only military service to fall under the Department of Homeland Security, rather than the Department of Defense – so
he contends the president's tweet calling for a ban on transgenders in the military shouldn't apply to his branch.
