http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3803708Oh my.
You know, I always thought that was sort of cheap of my fellow alum Skins, to do that.
One has to be a donating member of Skins's island to search there.
One doesn't have to be a donating member of freerepublic, our old home, or our new home, to search.
I think it's tawdry; one of those smaller nastinesses in my fellow alum.
And the primitives think petroleum companies rip them off.

Would you be interested in this feature?
Suppose that you could type in a username and search for all threads started by the DUer who has that username. Is that a feature that you would appreciate having available to you?

1. Well, that's already here, AFAIK
Haven't ponied up any money lately, so I can't tell you for sure if it's still here, but I don't see why it wouldn't be...

3. I don't think that it is available now.
1. Now you have to search within one particular subforum at a time. You can't perform one search that will give hits throughout the message board.
2. Now you can search by author name, but Original Posts and Replies will be mixed together.

2. Yes and No
On the one hand, it would be easier to find posts that you can remember who posted them but not what forum they posted in. On the other hand, it would be a very powerful stalking tool, and also be kinda creepily like participating in a domestic spy program, so.... overall, I'd have to say I'd prefer to not have that feature.
One wonders what the overflowing primitive has to hide.

5. "like participating in a domestic spy program"
When you post on this board, you are putting your posts out there for anyone to read. Private groups that have computing resources can already create powerful search engines and allow their members to use those search engines.
Of course, there could be a record of searches performed using DU's search resources. Is that an advantage or is that part of the problem that you're concerned about?

4. I wonder how many people use Journals to "keep" their most useful OPs?
Maybe there could be an "add to journal? yes/no" question that prompts the poster so they don't forget?
I dunno. Google works for me.
I think the primiitves just want another shiny new trinket to play with, nothing more than that.
