Tobin reads a bunch of books, and then nobody comes to his group discussion

I also have reason to believe he's attempting to start his own religion.  What would you call them?  Tubbites?  The Church of Tubby Tobin's Larder Day Saints?  Overallists?

I've read about 30 books in the past year.


I just finished one and I already have a new one. I kind of feel like I should take a break for some reason so I'm hesitant to start the new book. I also do a lot of reading online.

I started a metaphysical discussion group in my little burg of a hometown. I advertised at a local college and invited people from facebook, but we only had three participants at the first meeting- me, one of my wife's cousins, and my father-in-law.  It was still an interesting discussion, but I was hoping for a few more folks.

One of the things that I was thinking about doing was bringing a box of books to the discussion meetings and telling each participant that they could have one. I've got a bunch of relevant books on Eastern philosophy, spirituality, psychedelics, and such. I have a few books that I'd like to keep to revisit now and again, but I can let go of most of them and I think it would be cool to give them another life in that regard. There is also the second hand book store if I want a few bucks for them, but I think I'd like to give them away to acquaintances.

1. You've got some good ideas, my dear Tobin!

Unless your compatriots in your metaphysical discussion group know you very well, I would be cautious about which books you invite them to take. They might be surprised at your reading matter.

I could be all wet, of course!

Giving them a new life is a great idea.

2. I don't mind a little shock and awe when it comes to ideas.

I'm not doing anything illegal and we all should feel free to discuss any ideas that arise. Also, I doubt we're going to attract bigoted people in such a group. Discussing different ideas is anathema to such folks.

10. I think it's great that you're doing this! I've been in book clubs before and have had some great

experiences. Having said that, there is normally kind of a theme. Most of the books I read are spiritual and self-improvement. I'm fortunate that my very unconventional beliefs regarding life purpose, the afterlife, the life-between-lives, etc. are shared by most of the folks I know and the folks they know. If I lived in the "Bible-Belt, I wouldn't be able to be who I really am or express my true beliefs. If you want any recommendations for non-fiction/self-actualization types, I'll be happy to give you some.

Tobin's theme is whatever books he might have had lying around that didn't fall onto his plate and accidentally ingest.

Now realistically, Tubbs may be on to something here.  The mormons just knock on my door and tell me about their religion. Wanna give me pamphlets.  That bores me and I send them on their way forthwith.  That is if the doggies ain't out.  Nobody seems to come to the door when the doggies are out for some reason.

Now if someone was to bring me some BBQ ribs, cole slaw, fries and some baked beans... well I think I would be inclined to listen to them.. until I ate it all.  Give the doggies the scraps and these people could probably come back as many times as the want.   

If they was to give me a 12 pack of Yuengling with it they could probably stay until I went to bed.  I can listen to some bullshit as long as I got some beer.
