After hard-left turn under Jeremy Corbyn, Britain’s Labour Party on course for historic defeat

LONDON — In 2015, Britain’s Labour Party tacked to the left, repudiating the middle-way philosophy that had won it three elections under Tony Blair. Voters responded by handing the party its worst defeat in three decades.

Rather than scramble back toward the center, Labour lurched further left. The party elected as its leader Jeremy Corbyn, a white-bearded baby boomer from the back benches who, like Bernie Sanders in the United States, ignited an improbable movement among young activists with his attacks on the rigged capitalist system and unquestioned fidelity to socialist ideals.

Now, with less than six weeks to go before Britain votes once more, the Corbyn-led Labour Party is on course for an electoral beatdown so broad and deep it would make the drubbing the party took in 2015 look like a triumph.

The ruling Conservative Party has a double-digit lead over Labour in pre-election polls, and Prime Minister Theresa May stands to win a parliamentary majority that would have been the envy of Margaret Thatcher.....

Interesting parallel to the Democrats who seem to now rely on an anti-Trump platform but no defined platform of their own. They have almost no bench for senior candidates which could get past a victory path paved only with their own hubris. They picked the worst possible candidate for President and apparently rigged the primary process to ensure her selection. When caught, they blamed the messenger. They then replaced the party chair with someone who was later found to have slipped debate questions to Clinton. Throughout all this, the party took the old "Moving right along, nothing to see here" approach. They have been clobbered for the past 6 years in the local and state elections. Throughout all this, they seems to continue with the same messaging of more government, more regulation, higher taxes, and almost no accountability for results. The economy, which is the well-spring of all resources, is never a priority. And yet, they seem mystified by why people are not smart enough to embrace them -- lately turning to hateful epithets to denigrate those you'd think they want to attract. The face of the party is becoming the masked rioters who seem determined to quash free speech.

Agrees with the comment.  The National media is basically the Democratic Body, or 'party' now.  Another huge loss of Congressional-seats will make it easier to re-district 'The Old Messageless Party' into local significance only, as the 2020 Census looms.

Remember Rahm Emanuel moved US Census Bureau ops to the White House Chief Of Staff's office in 2010.  Now it's Priebus' baby.

I harbor no delusions of significance, but back in 2011 on another discussion board I posted at some length that the Rs and their Presidential candidate could not rely on a, "We are not Obama," message, but needed an even stronger, "This is what we are," message to go with, "We are not Obama."

Trump had a significant, "I am not Obama or Hillary!" message, but his, "This is who I am and what I will do," message was far stronger.

Well, I suppose this answers Jugs' question on another thread; "why change when we're doing so well?"

I frankly suggest that if the Democrats would cool it on their rabid enthusiasm for abortion, there's probably a lot of votes that'll come their way.
