President Trump took credit for making NATO relevant again at a joint press conference with its secretary general on Wednesday, labeling the alliance “no longer obsolete.”
“The secretary general and I had a productive discussion about what more NATO can do in the fight against terrorism,” Trump said.
“I complained about that a long time ago and they made a change, and now they do fight terrorism,” Trump added. “I said it was obsolete. It’s no longer obsolete.”
The president expressed hope that NATO will increase its support to Iraq, and said that h
e is sending his national security advisor, H.R. McMaster, to evaluate the situation in Afghanistan.
