What are you planning to do if you aren't going to work tomorrow?

35. Wise idea! I am pretty much cleaned out here. I am only a short walk from the
 
grocery stores, but I don't know if they will be open tomorrow. I have crackers and pasta and some butter so I won't starve, but I'm not exactly prepared for the long haul. Hopefully it won't last long.

11. Yup. Live in western Fairfield County, CT and work in Manhattan.
 
Told my employees to stay home tomorrow. There are a handful of people who live within a couple of subway stops from the office, and they've volunteered to staff the office, but they can close it down anytime. We'll do a couple of conference calls for necessary business, but it's as much of a snow day as we can make it.

I'll probably spend a lot of the day shoveling to try to keep ahead of the accumulation. I'll be very worried about the wind knocking down trees and losing power and the subsequent threat of ice dams. Damn!

50. I live in Southeastern Connecticut and I have to work tomorrow.
 
We could get a foot of snow and wind gusts of 50 mph. The general manager where I work said the reason we aren't closing is because we have a policy that we pay people anyway if we close. Ergo, since their expenses won't go down, they don't have much incentive to close.

I live about a half mile away--not too far--but I'm not looking forward to walking home when the snow is falling several inches an hour in that wind.

It must be nice living in a place where the news media and the Drudge Report tell the whole world about one's weather; despite that the Upper Great Plains states get worse during most winters, nobody pays attention.  Half an inch of snow in Boston rates more headlines than twenty-five feet of snow in northern Nebraska.

Frank, Boston is supposed to get 18 inches of snow from this.  NYC is supposed to get about a foot; Philly is supposed to get upwards of 9 inches.  Where I am, it's supposed to be 4 to 8 inches, but it's falling right now, in the middle of rush hour.  Driving will be a mess.  The Heiress' school is closed (as are all of the schools within a 30-mile radius of me), and I told my wife that she's not going in--it's too dangerous to drive.  Sure, there's some idiots that will try, and most of them will actually make it; but they will cause good and decent people to go off the road, and that's a problem.

Carl will probably get a bit more snow.  Stuff happens.  We upstaters know that.

Exactly what I was wondering.  How tough is it to keep a few cans of some prepared food around, without going full prepper?  Chili, ravioli, soup, whatever you like, but seriously people living in dorms have more food stashed in their desks and closets than this supposedly-adult moonbat.

Well now, you know I fully appreciate the stark fact that upstate New York has winters that tend to be more unbearable than even ours, mostly because of the feet of snow that buries you guys.

We might, or might not, get as much snow here on the Great Plains, but as the wind is usually blowing, it doesn't hang around long.  (Excepting the past couple of years, it has.)

When it comes to sheer volume of snow, I'd rather be anywhere else in the world than in upstate New York, and when it comes to bone-shattering cold, i'd rather be anywhere else in the world other than on the shores of New Jersey or facing Lake Erie on a windy day in Cleveland.

We get rain rather than snow here in Silicon Valley. We get mudslides and downed trees (blown over due to wind and mud not holding the tree roots) rather than black ice and snow blocking and/or obscuring roads. One trail run race had to be moved from Pacifica, on the SF Peninsula, to the Marin Peninsula, on the other side of the Golden Gate, due to downed trees blocking the trails. Anyway, we're probably well above our annual average rainfall for the year, with 3 1/2 or 4 1/2 months to go. Likewise the snow pack in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Siskyou Mountains.

I'm in Georgia. If we get any accumulation, everything shuts down. North Georgia might not but the rest of the state does.

I am seeing the dire snowpocalypse for the Northeast on the local channel.  Flights in and out were being canceled early this morning.  One woman was all stressed out because she couldn't get back to Philly and had to spend another day in Florida.  (tough duty I guess)  It is a crisp 78 here today in SWFL. 

I guarantee it can get darn cold in New England when the power goes out and you have no heat but that is just a matter of being prepared for natives.

Now a foot of snow in Boston?  That is a nightmare because there is no place to put it They would love 'em some wide open space to dump it. Enjoy the snow guys.

Pretty steady rain here, with some heavy times, late yesterday AM and most of the afternoon. I think today will be mostly dry (in the sky), though there might be a couple of showers from the tail end of the storm. It'll be nice weather tomorrow and Sunday for the several trail races in the Bay Area, though the ones on unpaved trails could be pretty muddy, and rutted on the hills.

It's going to be fun, seeing how the Warmistas who point at current/recent weather events fit CA's drought of recent years and last and this year's rainier weather into their Global Worming religion. I'm confident of their ability.

Yes, it was a fairly quick moving nasty snowstorm with lots of thunder to boot. But life goes on.  I'm not saying working in it was easy, far from it - but, one needs to be able to adapt and learn to persevere in tough situations. Whining about it on DU doesn't do anything.

I had to shovel about 3 inches off of the driveway this morning, and we have another 7 inches or so coming tomorrow/tomorrow night.  I do have to get one of the tires of the snowblower fixed, as the bead on the right side tire was broken and the tire deflated.  It's tough to snowblow with a flat tire that wants to keep coming off of the rim.  It can be done; I proved that, but it's tough.

I'm getting it fixed today.

ETA:  The Winter Storm Warning says that we're getting 10 to 14 inches, between 7 AM Sunday and 7 PM Monday.  The snowblower is gassed up; the tire is fixed.  My family is ready.
